At TCI, our culture is vital to us. We believe an organisation’s culture is the brand and speaks to what matters most for the people there.
Our culture is not conservative, traditional or ‘regular’ in any sense. When you come into our campus, you will see a fifty feet tall statement about what we stand for, and when you come up the stairs, you’ll see a throne in the foyer. The ‘Moon Bear’ Café is for our students to meet and hang out, and all profits raised there go to charity. The campus is covered in graffiti of inspirational messages, and our values are on all the doors. Photos of our students have been turned into wall paper in one room, and in another there are dozens of photos of success stories.
Everywhere you turn, you see reminders of what we think matters most.
Our members. Our vision. Our values. Our team.
We dance, ring bells, sing songs, stop to celebrate our members’ success and phone people to sing them ‘Happy Birthday’. We laugh often, work very hard and challenge the status quo every single day.
Our team is selected because they have demonstrated that they really care about people and want to help others succeed. They are passionate about helping our members succeed as coaches and succeed at life.
We have ten core values which we live by. All hiring decisions are based on these values. Our performance reviews are on the values. Our feedback and our standards are determined by these values.
At TCI, we expect each of our team members to bring their expertise and proficiency, their passion and their desire to succeed in their role. We do it in such a way that we deliver what we say we’re going to do, outstandingly.
Focus on problems for 10% of the time, and solutions for the other 90%. One of the things that make us so unique is that each of us brings our own passion for results and our determination to succeed. And this is what makes our company thrive. We are great because we all share the same underlying desire to be the best at what we do. We don’t take ‘no’ or ‘that’ll never work’ for an answer because if we had, then we would have never started in the first place.
‘Doing the job’ is not enough – WOW matters. At TCI, anything worth doing is worth doing with WOW. WOW is the ripple effect that we create on a daily basis to deliver an emotional impact to our receivers. There is nothing about us that is average – our service is not average, our programs are not average – our people can’t be average. We WOW because it results in word-of-mouth and it keeps our community excited about their own dreams, not just our own.
Remember that the gap between what you SAY you want and what you ACTUALLY want to achieve is the discipline to act consistently until it’s done. To succeed in our role, we take 100% responsibility for both our results and non-results. We believe that we are in control of and we influence the outcomes of our decisions. Every member of TCI welcomes responsibility because it is a measure of how we are progressing individually and as a company.
We stand out from our competitors in our value to bring uniqueness by laughing, taking ourselves lightly, and to approach things in quirky ways. This means we can express our individuality freely. We can express our personality in our work. To outsiders, that may come across as inconsistent or weird, but the consistency lies in our belief that we function best when we can be ourselves.
“If you don't know where you are going, any road will get you there." It's important to get others involved. John Maxwell, in his book called ‘Thinking for a Change’, uses the illustration that you can have one idea, but when you engage someone else you will get a few more ideas, and if you engage a group of people you can get several ideas. The synergy of the group will cause that one great idea emerge. There are many ways to gain positive input from other people. Great ideas, as we can see, come from engaging others.
Challenge the status quo often – you are here to help us all to improve, and we have no interest in ‘doing what we’ve always done’ when there is a better way. Through innovation and iteration, we aim to take things that work well and improve upon them in unexpected ways.
We are interested in keeping up with new developments and knowledge in the field. We believe that if we want to continue leading the industry, we must continually embrace changes. We bring on board those with an expertise at learning, adapting and figuring new things out because in the process of helping our company grow, they will also be growing themselves. At TCI, we believe that inside every team member is more potential than even they themselves realise. Our joint effort as a team then is to unlock that potential.
We ask the question “How do you do that?”. At TCI, we don’t do the same thing over and over and expect a different outcome. We believe in finding where excellence lies, seek that wisdom, and apply it in our own endeavours and in the work that we produce.
Think of the team before you think of yourself. At TCI, we put lots of emphasis on our culture and our people because we want it to be the place people want to be. We are more than just a team – we are a family. We work together and we also play together. Our bonds go far beyond the typical “co-worker” relationships found at most other companies. Because we are such a diverse company, we embrace similarities and differences in thoughts, opinions and backgrounds, and this is the positive impact we make on the company – great communication.
A lot of companies have a long mission statement, and no one can remember it. What we have is something very short: this is what we do, and this is why we do it.
We believe that work should be fun. We want to share this with you to show you that it’s really the people that make TCI the kind of company it is today. We don’t have to be told what to do – we know our values and we get behind them. This is how we succeed…
We are a culture that encourages individual expression, that discourages judgement or criticism, but will say it ‘how it is’ to help someone. We are not into ‘positive thinking’, but real living. Our vision is Live Your Dream. We think we’re fortunate that every day we get to help people do exactly this.
We trust you feel the same way about what you do.
We believe it's important to combine profits with passion, purpose and playfulness. In fact, we think we are profitable BECAUSE we focus on bringing our passion to what we do, because we are clear on our purpose and because we have fun doing it.
Our vision is Live Your Dream. It's daring and bold, like we are. It asks a lot of someone, to do this. It requires courage and a willingness to learn and step outside of your comfort zone. It's one thing to dare to dream, it's another altogether to LIVE that dream.
We believe we're here to help people discover and live their dream through our educational programs. Everything we do is to enhance people's lives and to challenge the status quo that 'this is all there is'. We are passionate about coaching and Meta Dynamics being vehicles to help in the discovery of our true purpose.
We had one person apply to work with us and came and spent a day with us. At lunch time he shared, 'You're too passionate for me'. We love that we're too passionate! We want people who are part of our team to feel deep passion for what we do.
We approach what we do with a sense of fun and playfulness. We have costume days, we dance, we sing, we ring bells when we achieve something awesome and we celebrate our students' wins with them. We LOVE that by being a part of our team means you can be your true self. We are informal, relaxed and unimpressed by typical corporate behaviour.
