Advanced Skills students simply the best

Wow, yet another sensational and highly successful Advanced Skills training program has been completed, with testimonies galore about the added skills and knowledge that the students walked away with, when they left The Coaching Institute and the company of Joe Pane, on Sunday evening 29th May 2011. Here are some of the students comments on their experiences:

“This training has been life changing for me both personally and professionally. There were many light bulb moments which has given me greater self awareness. I loved all the different codes and models which I know I can start using straight away with my clients. Thankyou!” Jane Benston, Armadale, VIC

“What I experience at each training is what it feels like to step up to the next level – not only personally but professionally. I know by leading and living my life in step with my learnings I am able to give that gift to those I connect with – and that is a beautiful thing!” Lisa Mills, MEREWETHER HEIGHTS, NSW

“I loved the training, it really is the glue that binds many of the principles from intake together. I am glad that I have done it as my second face to face experience.”  Sharon Curciarello, Perth, WA

“I loved the different and varied applications the trainings can be used. So interesting! Wow! I now know part of the code and want more.”      Lori Auvinet, Goldcoast, QLD

“The energy presented and mirrored by the room made learning enjoyable, easy to follow and the days flew by. Looking forward to more!!”      Mark Smith, Perth, WA

So, the bottom line is, those students in our community yet to complete their Advanced Skills, get onto it!! It is stepping you up to the next level of coaching. Remember there is no time for regrets or doubts. There is only time for Decisions.

A master at the dabble….

What category would you put yourself into with the decisions that you make and the action you take (or not). Are you a person that eventually becomes a master at your craft or do you quit and retreat back into your cave, your comfort zone… only to re-appear when you are bored of your life again? Did you know that perfectionists are masters at self sabotage and procrastination?

We invite you to think of an area of your life where you just had to have all your ducks in a row before you started taking action. As human beings we operate at an unconscious level in making these decisions to retreat or move forward, and unless we take control of this and have more purpose on what we do, we will become a master dabbler…

So, ask yourself…What are you going to do with this (action or goal) once the rubber hits the road. Are you going to self sabotage and focus on the past and yourself or are you going to decide that it is time to change your mindset. At your Advanced Skills training with the exceptional and professional Joe Pane he de-mystifies human behaviour in a way that you can easily and effortlessly begin to apply in your own life and that of your clients. So next time you are deciding to move forward towards the future or retreat into the ‘safe’ past, ask yourself these questions:

“What am I focussing on – only myself or myself and others? Am I yet again preparing to become a master dabbler or am I truly going to decide what I am going to do to move myself beyond my comfort zone to a new level of success?

What do I need to do to get there? What result will this give me?

Well, what’s your answer, coaches at The Coaching Institute?

To be a dabbler or a doer?

Back to Basics – Choosing a Niche

So, here’s the thing.  Choosing a niche is an important thing as a coach.  It helps us to differentiate ourselves from the rest.  It helps us to focus our marketing strategies and helps us make successful businesses.  We place so much importance on this thing called a niche that it can really make us over think it.

What if it was really easy to choose a niche?

What if all we had to do was get back to the basics?

What do I mean by that?

Well, what we hear at The Coaching Institute is that to attract clients we must be what our clients want and that we are always “on”.  What will make this easy you ask?  By choosing a niche that is natural for us.  A niche where we can come from our hearts, a niche that honours our top five values and by being a full expression of ourselves.

So I can hear you thinking all the way over here; how is this going to help me choose a niche?

I heard once to think about the games, particularly the make believe games, you used to play when you were a kid.  What insights can you gain from those games that will let you know what is a natural way of being that when you pair it up with your highest values you can really narrow the playing field to your niche?

For me there were two games I loved to play.  One was House and I always wanted to play the Mum.  The other was what my best friend and I called Care Bears.  We would play on the swing set and the swings were the cloud cars and while we were swinging we were in Care-a-lot and then we would look down at the ground and see someone who needed our wisdom and help.  My number one value is love.  So is any surprise that I am coach and is it any surprise that have chosen Relationships as my niche?

For me to live from love and to come from a heart space and to be of service is easy for me because that is who I am.  To talk to people about relationships and to know that I am blessed to be a part of an amazing relationship is no surprise either.  It’s simple and easy when you go back to basics.

So what are your basics?

What are your core values?

What is your ideal version of yourself?

And what were the games you used to play?

Have fun playing with your niche and remember as you evolve so will your niche.  You can always change it the world is your oyster.

What’s valuable about Values?

Ever been in a situation where something doesn’t ‘sit’ right with you? We invite you to consider this…how aligned to your values are you? How much value do you put into being aligned? How much value do you put into behaving in line with your values?

A way to work with your values and to know you are on track is to list your top values – say between 5 to 7, and then decide for each value how you want to live by them. Decide in what order of priority your values are important to you. Decide whether you are prepared to compromise on any of them and if so, to what extent and under what circumstances.  Then, out of curiosity, reduce this list down to your top 5, then your top 3, then your most important value.

In our coaching community at The Coaching Institute we speak of congruency…being aligned to your values… and we speak of incongruency…when you are not aligned to your values. What is it that drives you and helps you decide what is most important to you? How do you ensure that you know when you are congruent?  For Coaches, it is important for us to know what our values are, and how we coach our own clients on their values…..how do your values align to your vision, to your goals? We invite you to explore what is congruent with you and how this drives your decisions. Above all, to live the life of your dreams this includes living true to your values, every time.

When to buy and when not to buy, that is the question

So, when do you buy into your own limiting beliefs? Are you conscious of that? Hmm…interesting question isn’t it? As coaches of The Coaching Institute we are certainly aware of our clients limiting beliefs and patterns and as coaches the best way for us to serve them is not to  buy into those beliefs. Rather we are given tools to reframe their beliefs and ask great questions to allow them to the opportunity to change what is no longer working for them. All that without judgement and the need to be right. That is because we believe that our clients have every resource inside them to transform their lives into anything they choose.

So the question is, what are you buying about your own beliefs? When is the last time you have challenged your own thinking? Do you seek support when you don’t know why? By that we mean employ a coach for yourself, to work through what is no longer serving you? So, ask yourself this – What am I buying into now and how is that serving me?

“You must know that in any moment a decision you make can change the course of your life forever..” Anthony Robbins

Mastermind….aspirational thinking

We welcomed our sensational Masterminders today for their first Mastermind Think Tank. Over the next few days there is certainly much happening around the Masterminders area, and it gives us yet more evidence that a collective of talent can achieve far more than individuals…truly inspiring and aspirational to those of us who are outside the room.

Star Gazing – What the Night Sky Can Teach us About Curiosity and Possibility

Have you ever looked up at the night sky on a clear evening with all the twinkling stars and a brightly lit crescent moon and felt the expanse of the universe?  You feel all the space around you and above you and you think about how outer space is infinite and never ending.  It fills you with wonder and amazement and even curiosity.

How is it possible that there is no ending?

And if there truly is no ending than are we really the only inelegant life form out there in all this space?

And if there’s other galaxies and potentially other life forms out there than what else is possible?

My reason for bringing this up is not to open a conversation about aliens and astrology but rather to illustrate two key points us coaches can take from this.

1)      The night sky teaches us the art of curiosity.  Coming from this place of curiosity and wonderment is how we coaches really serve our clients.  When was the last time someone else was in wonderment about what you had to say?  When was the last time someone cared enough to be truly curious about who we are and who we are becoming?  Most of us, most of the time only get this curious when we look up at the night sky.  When we come from this place of wonderment we really open the doors to self discovery and deep learning for our clients; and what a gift that is!

2)      And here is where the inspiration for this post came from.  Being in this place of wonderment really opens us up to what’s possible.  The night sky is a great place to look for possibility and perspective.

So the next time you’re stuck in a coaching session or wondering what the next steps are, remember the night sky and remember the wonder and the awe and the next question or next step will appear.  And the next time your client is stuck or says “but that’s just the way it is”, remember the night sky and ask them

What’s the night sky perspective?

What’s possible from the place of outer space and wonder?

See what happens.  It’s amazing what the night sky can teach us.

The insiders guide to providing a great experience (AKA consistency and certainty)

After visiting my favourite coffee store the other morning, I was talking with the rest of the team and letting them know what a fantastic experience I had.  “I know of this really great cafe that serves the best coffee”.. I said excitedly. . I enthused “It’s not only the outstanding cup of perfectly frothed fruity, aromatic and strong coffee that I go there for.  This particular cafe is located down a secret alley way…The laneway is full of colourful graffiti and it feels like I’ve ‘struck gold’ with my ‘hidden gem’ of a local coffee store.  The welcoming staff always greet you as you enter.  There is always a smile on their dials as they hand over the cup and I’m greeted like an old mate“. “Okay” they said, “that’s great…”

What I realised when I was talking with the team was that it wasn’t actually the cup of coffee as I so wisely had believed. It was actually the cool experience I had each time I turned up there. Like, my coffee always tasted the same, I was always greeted like an old friend, it was always a welcoming smell….you get the picture don’t you?

And why am I telling you this? I believe that this is a great way to transform this learning into creating new clients for you….because when you think about your clients what are you selling them? Coaching? Nope! You are selling them an experience! And a consistent one at that!

Think about it. If you always answer the phone professionally, always send them what you promise, always do everything consistently they will love it because they are certain about what they are getting. A great experience, not a cup of coffee.

So,

Your clients can translate into a great success for you if you simply coach with the pure intent of serving your clients from the heart with consistency and certainty.  Think about the value you can give to your clients and your business.  Think about the possibilities if you implemented this way of thinking.

1)      Your Pro Bono client becomes one of your paying clients…because you don’t differentiate between whether they pay you or not, they still get a great experience

2)      Your Pro Bono client is so impressed with your coaching and tells 10 people how great you are as a coach. From these 10 referrals you gain one extra client who tells 10 more people… and so on and so forth.

3)      Your paying clients come back for more and compliment you by referring others onto you because they are prepared to put their trust in you.

There are absolutely no skills required but to simply be coming from your heart and knowing that certainty and consistency are a vital key in what you are delivering.

So, when you think of the way you do business – Are you consistent or inconsistent? How well do you sell your coffee?

What is Ho’Oponopono?

Talking of radical beliefs, Ho’Oponopono may be a technique that some of us in the Western world may struggle with. There are those of us that have just accepted the principal of this technique and taken on the practice with curiosity and flow. So, what is it? In our student Weekly News a few weeks ago, our resident Star Wars Jedi Knight Kirby wrote the following as a great way of introducing this….

“I recently stumbled across this century’s old Hawaiian problem solving technique. The principal of the technique being that every problem coming up for you is a fantastic opportunity to “clean”.

Ho’oponopono suggests that we are all indeed connected (quantum physics) and we are all 100% percent responsible for all the things happening in our lives (cause and effect).

By “cleaning” we take full responsibility for the problem occurring, thanking the situation for arising and loving the situation as well as asking for forgiveness for its creation. To give you an example of how powerful this technique can be a man called Dr. Hew Len healed an entire ward of mentally ill patients without seeing one of them face to face. He used to sit in his office and read their files and literally just “clean”. Saying over and over again “I’m sorry – please forgive me – thank you and I love you”.

The idea being that by “cleaning” himself he is also cleaning whatever that feelings and thought associated i.e. (the patients). Ho’oponopono’s main principal being that problems or challenges we face are actually a perfect circumstance to help us learn and grow.

Dr. Hew Len in a radio interview recently actually asked the interviewer to ask him some of the nasty questions and responses to his interview as inevitably there are always one or two. When the interviewer asked him why he would want to know and be asked those questions he replied “it gives me another opportunity to clean” and that those questions aren’t in fact coming from the people themselves but from the “data, memories & beliefs” – which is what essentially is being “cleaned”.

Notice what comes up for you over the next day or two and try a little “cleaning”. See what happens.

Kirby

So….your author did just that. I have been practising this technique and have had some interesting things already happening….and who knows why but it is cool all the same. It’s just another way of letting go, going with the flow, stop resisting, and start visualising, believing…well the list goes on. There is a consistent message that comes through from our students, being that the more that they hang onto their outcomes rigidly and without compromise the more the challenge there is to succeed and the more they establish their goals and actions, then just go with the flow, keep moving forward and adjusting to challenges and hiccups in their road and continue to move forward, the more success occurs. So are you prepared to add the cleansing principles of Ho’Oponopono or stay with what you have now? Whatever works for you, we wish you continued success!

One secret of successful coaches………..

Want to know what successful coaches do, as part of their recipe for success? They just ‘do the do’! So, what does that mean for new coaches just heading into their learning journey, and for those coaches who are well into their journey? Well, think of it this way. Doing the Do means just taking some actions rather than waiting for all your ‘ducks’ to be in a row. Having the most perfect website will not help you if you are not out there making it happen. This is where goal setting is so important. Set up your big goals (12 months and 90 day goals) then break them down into 30 day, 1 week and daily tasks and actions that will help you move forward. (We share great material with our students around this – just make sure that you read it – make it part of your goals). Just get out there and make it happen. Pro bonos, networking, webinars, triads, developing your website and business card, workshops….the list goes on. And avoid falling into the trap of taking ‘linear’ action, as this is very slow. Think of this analogy to make sense of what we mean. Think of a tree when it first starts to grow. It doesn’t grow it’s roots first, then it’s trunk, then it’s branches and then it’s leaves (I think you get the idea!). A tree just grows….all bits that are important to it’s overall growth. And more so, if the tree encounters an obstacle it doesn’t just stop growing and give up….it grows around the obstacle and keeps on going (just ask those with underground pipes near a large tree!). So, thinking about that further….a tree doesn’t resist….it just does….it does the doing….without a recipe or instructions. Nature is a great teacher for us coaches….nothing in nature tries, it just does. So take a ‘leaf’ out of nature’s book….just do the do and allow the limiting beliefs to be released, and above all don’t resist…Go with the Flow!

Stepping out into the coaching world

And we say Congratulations to our latest new group of students who have completed their Foundations of Coaching Success weekend, here at The Coaching Institute and are now stepping out and up into our Coaching World. With this new found knowledge and inspiration comes a level of anticipation, trepidation and uncertainty. We who have gone before you put our hands out in encouragement and support and say that what you are experiencing is normal and okay! If you can hang onto the knowledge that life will constantly test you for your level of commitment and that your greatest rewards will come when you demonstrate what Anthony Robbins describes as a never-ending commitment to act until you have achieved. He goes on to say “This level of resolve can move mountains, but it must be constant and consistent. As simplistic as this may sound, it is still the common denominator separating those who live their dreams from those who live in regret“. So…students of The Coaching Institute, and new coaches of our coaching community, step forward into uncertainty and know that those that have succeeded before you have done so because of their level of commitment and certainty that something will happen, something will change, and their dreams will manifest into reality. And we will be here along the way……May your dreams come true!!

More new friends and even more learning!

Life is never dull for our student community here at The Coaching Institute. As Wednesday rolled on in, we welcomed our new NLP Practitioner program students on their first day of NLP Practitioner Training. We watched on (in a knowing way) that the nervous anticipation of what was to come will result in learning that will take this sensational group of coaches to a new level of coaching expertise and results for them and their clients. We look forward to hearing their feedback on their experiences, just as we have done many times before, with the certainty that this will change their coaching forever. We know that they have every opportunity to grow and become even more of what they have ever wished for, as a result of the phenomanel trainers and professional crew that assist and support them in their learning journey. High standards lead to huge results. Embrace it and enjoy the journey!

And this Friday we welcome another new group of ‘friends’ who are joining our coaching community here at The Coaching Institute. We love hearing how each new student’s decision to change their life and want to make a difference in this world creates such fantastic opportunity not just for them, but also for every person that they connect with, and even way beyond that. It’s not just about the belief of what this can bring for them, it’s also that they have taken the step, taken the action, which is where most people in this world stop before they do that. Enjoy this new journey and trust that this is truly a new beginning for you all, just waiting for you to seize it and make it your own.

Concerning all acts of initiative and creation, there is one elementary truth – that the moment one definitely commits oneself,  then Providence moves, too” Johann Wolfgang Van Goethe.

The Wheel of Life

Here’s a great question for coaches of The Coaching Institute. “How is your wheel turning”?  Got you thinking? The purpose of this wheel is to measure the quality of your life. A great exercise to do is look at your own Wheel of Life and how balanced it is, and then decide whether you would trust driving your car, using this wheel. In other words, how well balanced is your wheel or does it need some alignment so that your ride is more enjoyable? There are a few versions of the Wheel of Life. The one that we’re referring to is in Sharon Pearson’s book Your Success. Here are some basic instructions.

Draw a circle and divide it into 8 equal parts. Each part represents an area of your life.

1. Business / Career

2. Money

3. Health

4. Family

5. Relationships

6. Personal Growth

7. Fun Time

8. Physical Environment.

Each of these lines is a spoke in your wheel and represents this area of your life (kinda like dividing up a pie into equal parts). The centre of the wheel represents 0% satisfaction and fulfillment of that particular area of your life. The outside of your wheel segment or pie represents 100% satisfaction and fulfillment of that particular area of your life. Now, draw a line across each segment, to represent where you believe you are at with that area of your life. For example if you believe that your health is at 50% then you would draw a line across the Health segment about half way to represent this. If it helps you just add the percentage as well.

Then ask yourself, if this represented the wheels on my car how well is my car running? If the quality of your ride is not great, then here’s the chance to do something about it…..or not. If you put your energy, focus and time onto the areas of your life that matter to you the most, then how would this be for you? How would your life be different? Better? The same?

Enjoy the exercise and make your own decisions on how your ride is going……and whether it’s time for a tuning!!!

How our purpose keeps us on track….

At The Coaching Institute we have the really cool opportunity of talking to students about the purpose of enrolling in our coaching programs. This is about sharing their hopes, dreams and desires. It is sincerely one of our great joys that we’re part of these conversations on a daily basis.  And we also get the opportunity to extend extra support when that same student is experiencing challenges about keeping on track. What we’ve noticed is….what differentiates those that remain focussed and on track, and those that move readily into overwhelm, is this……Those that keep their visions and their goals visible have far more focus, far more certainty, (even though they aren’t attached to the outcome). What that means is that they display their ‘vision board’ and they put up their major goals, to remind them of why they have taken this step forward. It serves to remind them that having a purpose and having a plan which then means they can step up to any fear and move through that fear without having to know where it’s going to lead. Those that don’t have goals or don’t visit them regularly are more scattered in mindset and more prone to overwhelm. At The Coaching Institute we have a fabulous team ready to support and guide students in setting their goals and keeping on track. So this is a great time to have a look around…..Ask yourself…..do you have a reminder on why you have invested in yourself and your future? If not, why not? You deserve it….so create it and keep it visible………..It’s amazing how well this works!!

Non negotiable behaviours

And what are your non-negotiable behaviours for yourself? What standards do you set for yourself that you live by without compromise? Part of your learning and development should be your determination to uphold your own level of standards no matter what you are faced with. Behaviours such as being on purpose, having ownership and accountability for your thoughts and feelings. Being determined to make a difference and to find a way to make ‘it’ happen (and then find a better way!). Always acting with a servant’s heart – as a coach, being curious and non-judgemental. Being willing to learn and having a consistent commitment to your purpose and level of mastery. When you write your goals, make sure you also take the time to decide what your behaviours will be that you intend to live by and keep reviewing these and checking in to make sure that you do live the life that has meaning for you, …….every time!

Welcome to our students!

Lots of learning and lots of transformation awaits all who enter the training rooms! Enjoy the experience!

Another great read….

At The Coaching Institute we share what we know, and what we discover along the way, including any books that may assist you learn and develop. One such recommended read is not only for those of you who are just setting out on your coaching journey and looking at developing your own business, but also for those of you who are already running your business and perhaps finding that you are working more “in” the business and don’t have any time to work ‘on’ the business – Look at The EMyth Revisited by Michael E. Gerber. This book is a fantastic read for any potential or currrent business owner and operator and has some great insights into why your small business may not be working and what you can do about it. You are going to have to read the book to fully appreciate Gerber’s simple yet profound  insights into business. One thing that we will share with you now is on Gerber’s point of view on the value a business provides. Simply put, Gerber explains the value of a business as “…what people perceive it to be, and nothing more”. As is the mantra talked about on many occasions throughout The Coaching Institute student’s journey, and so eloquently put by Gerber, your business must “…provide consistent value to your customers, employees, suppliers, and lenders” and this value should do so “…beyond their wildest expectations“.  Now, does the following sound familiar to you?…Gerber goes on to suggest that “It is the understanding of value, as it impacts every person with whom your business comes into contact, that every extraordinary business lives“. We talk about serving from the heart so you can make a difference for others. Read this book, enjoy it and as with everything that you learn, take from it what you require and adapt it for your own success. It is up to you ultimately on what you believe about yourself and your purpose. Happy reading! :)

Having certainty….still works!!!!!!!!!!!!

A couple of us who work here at The Coaching Institute were having a chat this evening about a student who shared their results simply by having certainty. This is so cool we wanted to share it with you, and pass on thanks to the lovely Leanne for sharing her wisdom! Leanne spoke of her most successful marketing strategies simply being about having certainty that she was contributing to making a difference for others by serving from the heart, and being authentic. She said that this attracted clients who wanted this, and the result? She has paying clients! So cool of Leanne to share that - you know it’s what we know already and what we learn here at The Coaching Institute, yet sometimes we look for more proof to convince ourselves. Why? Well, that’s another story!

Welcome to our new students!

A huge welcome and congratulations from The Coaching Institute to our latest group of new students who have just completed their Foundations of Coaching Success Weekend here in Melbourne. As you start your journey in our ever expanding coaching community always remember that (in the words of that fabulous role model Anthony Robbins) ‘…life is constantly testing us for our level of commitment, and life’s greatest rewards are reserved for those who demonstrate a never-ending commitment to act until they achieve. This level of resolve can move mountains, but it must be constant and consistent. As simplistic as this may sound, it is still the common denominator separating those who live their dreams from those who live in regret“. So choose well, fellow coaches….as you start this journey in living life on YOUR terms.
