Wow, yet another sensational and highly successful Advanced Skills training program has been completed, with testimonies galore about the added skills and knowledge that the students walked away with, when they left The Coaching Institute and the company of Joe Pane, on Sunday evening 29th May 2011. Here are some of the students comments on their experiences:

I know by leading and living my life in step with my learnings I am able to give that gift to those I connect with – and that is a beautiful thing!” Lisa Mills, MEREWETHER HEIGHTS, NSW

A master at the dabble….

What category would you put yourself into with the decisions that you make and the action you take (or not). Are you a person that eventually becomes a master at your craft or do you quit and retreat back into your cave, your comfort zone… only to re-appear when you are bored of your life again? Did you know that perfectionists are masters at self sabotage and procrastination?

We invite you to think of an area of your life where you just had to have all your ducks in a row before you started taking action. As human beings we operate at an unconscious level in making these decisions to retreat or move forward, and unless we take control of this and have more purpose on what we do, we will become a master dabbler…

So, ask yourself…What are you going to do with this (action or goal) once the rubber hits the road. Are you going to self sabotage and focus on the past and yourself or are you going to decide that it is time to change your mindset. At your Advanced Skills training with the exceptional and professional Joe Pane he de-mystifies human behaviour in a way that you can easily and effortlessly begin to apply in your own life and that of your clients. So next time you are deciding to move forward towards the future or retreat into the ‘safe’ past, ask yourself these questions:

“What am I focussing on – only myself or myself and others? Am I yet again preparing to become a master dabbler or am I truly going to decide what I am going to do to move myself beyond my comfort zone to a new level of success?

What do I need to do to get there? What result will this give me?

Well, what’s your answer, coaches at The Coaching Institute?

To be a dabbler or a doer?

Back to Basics – Choosing a Niche

So, here’s the thing.  Choosing a niche is an important thing as a coach.  It helps us to differentiate ourselves from the rest.  It helps us to focus our marketing strategies and helps us make successful businesses.  We place so much importance on this thing called a niche that it can really make us over think it.

What if it was really easy to choose a niche?

What if all we had to do was get back to the basics?

What do I mean by that?

Well, what we hear at The Coaching Institute is that to attract clients we must be what our clients want and that we are always “on”.  What will make this easy you ask?  By choosing a niche that is natural for us.  A niche where we can come from our hearts, a niche that honours our top five values and by being a full expression of ourselves.

So I can hear you thinking all the way over here; how is this going to help me choose a niche?

I heard once to think about the games, particularly the make believe games, you used to play when you were a kid.  What insights can you gain from those games that will let you know what is a natural way of being that when you pair it up with your highest values you can really narrow the playing field to your niche?

For me there were two games I loved to play.  One was House and I always wanted to play the Mum.  The other was what my best friend and I called Care Bears.  We would play on the swing set and the swings were the cloud cars and while we were swinging we were in Care-a-lot and then we would look down at the ground and see someone who needed our wisdom and help.  My number one value is love.  So is any surprise that I am coach and is it any surprise that have chosen Relationships as my niche?

For me to live from love and to come from a heart space and to be of service is easy for me because that is who I am.  To talk to people about relationships and to know that I am blessed to be a part of an amazing relationship is no surprise either.  It’s simple and easy when you go back to basics.

So what are your basics?

What are your core values?

What is your ideal version of yourself?

And what were the games you used to play?

Have fun playing with your niche and remember as you evolve so will your niche.  You can always change it the world is your oyster.

What’s valuable about Values?

Ever been in a situation where something doesn’t ‘sit’ right with you? We invite you to consider this…how aligned to your values are you? How much value do you put into being aligned? How much value do you put into behaving in line with your values?

A way to work with your values and to know you are on track is to list your top values – say between 5 to 7, and then decide for each value how you want to live by them. Decide in what order of priority your values are important to you. Decide whether you are prepared to compromise on any of them and if so, to what extent and under what circumstances.  Then, out of curiosity, reduce this list down to your top 5, then your top 3, then your most important value.

In our coaching community at The Coaching Institute we speak of congruency…being aligned to your values… and we speak of incongruency…when you are not aligned to your values. What is it that drives you and helps you decide what is most important to you? How do you ensure that you know when you are congruent?  For Coaches, it is important for us to know what our values are, and how we coach our own clients on their values…..how do your values align to your vision, to your goals? We invite you to explore what is congruent with you and how this drives your decisions. Above all, to live the life of your dreams this includes living true to your values, every time.

When to buy and when not to buy, that is the question

So, when do you buy into your own limiting beliefs? Are you conscious of that? Hmm…interesting question isn’t it? As coaches of The Coaching Institute we are certainly aware of our clients limiting beliefs and patterns and as coaches the best way for us to serve them is not to  buy into those beliefs. Rather we are given tools to reframe their beliefs and ask great questions to allow them to the opportunity to change what is no longer working for them. All that without judgement and the need to be right. That is because we believe that our clients have every resource inside them to transform their lives into anything they choose.

So the question is, what are you buying about your own beliefs? When is the last time you have challenged your own thinking? Do you seek support when you don’t know why? By that we mean employ a coach for yourself, to work through what is no longer serving you? So, ask yourself this – What am I buying into now and how is that serving me?

“You must know that in any moment a decision you make can change the course of your life forever..” Anthony Robbins

Mastermind….aspirational thinking

We welcomed our sensational Masterminders today for their first Mastermind Think Tank. Over the next few days there is certainly much happening around the Masterminders area, and it gives us yet more evidence that a collective of talent can achieve far more than individuals…truly inspiring and aspirational to those of us who are outside the room.

Star Gazing – What the Night Sky Can Teach us About Curiosity and Possibility

Have you ever looked up at the night sky on a clear evening with all the twinkling stars and a brightly lit crescent moon and felt the expanse of the universe?  You feel all the space around you and above you and you think about how outer space is infinite and never ending.  It fills you with wonder and amazement and even curiosity.

How is it possible that there is no ending?

And if there truly is no ending than are we really the only inelegant life form out there in all this space?

And if there’s other galaxies and potentially other life forms out there than what else is possible?

My reason for bringing this up is not to open a conversation about aliens and astrology but rather to illustrate two key points us coaches can take from this.

1)      The night sky teaches us the art of curiosity.  Coming from this place of curiosity and wonderment is how we coaches really serve our clients.  When was the last time someone else was in wonderment about what you had to say?  When was the last time someone cared enough to be truly curious about who we are and who we are becoming?  Most of us, most of the time only get this curious when we look up at the night sky.  When we come from this place of wonderment we really open the doors to self discovery and deep learning for our clients; and what a gift that is!

2)      And here is where the inspiration for this post came from.  Being in this place of wonderment really opens us up to what’s possible.  The night sky is a great place to look for possibility and perspective.

So the next time you’re stuck in a coaching session or wondering what the next steps are, remember the night sky and remember the wonder and the awe and the next question or next step will appear.  And the next time your client is stuck or says “but that’s just the way it is”, remember the night sky and ask them

What’s the night sky perspective?

What’s possible from the place of outer space and wonder?

See what happens.  It’s amazing what the night sky can teach us.

The insiders guide to providing a great experience (AKA consistency and certainty)

After visiting my favourite coffee store the other morning, I was talking with the rest of the team and letting them know what a fantastic experience I had.  “I know of this really great cafe that serves the best coffee”.. I said excitedly. . I enthused “It’s not only the outstanding cup of perfectly frothed fruity, aromatic and strong coffee that I go there for.  This particular cafe is located down a secret alley way…The laneway is full of colourful graffiti and it feels like I’ve ‘struck gold’ with my ‘hidden gem’ of a local coffee store.  The welcoming staff always greet you as you enter.  There is always a smile on their dials as they hand over the cup and I’m greeted like an old mate“. “Okay” they said, “that’s great…”

What I realised when I was talking with the team was that it wasn’t actually the cup of coffee as I so wisely had believed. It was actually the cool experience I had each time I turned up there. Like, my coffee always tasted the same, I was always greeted like an old friend, it was always a welcoming smell….you get the picture don’t you?

And why am I telling you this? I believe that this is a great way to transform this learning into creating new clients for you….because when you think about your clients what are you selling them? Coaching? Nope! You are selling them an experience! And a consistent one at that!

Think about it. If you always answer the phone professionally, always send them what you promise, always do everything consistently they will love it because they are certain about what they are getting. A great experience, not a cup of coffee.

So,

Your clients can translate into a great success for you if you simply coach with the pure intent of serving your clients from the heart with consistency and certainty.  Think about the value you can give to your clients and your business.  Think about the possibilities if you implemented this way of thinking.

1)      Your Pro Bono client becomes one of your paying clients…because you don’t differentiate between whether they pay you or not, they still get a great experience

2)      Your Pro Bono client is so impressed with your coaching and tells 10 people how great you are as a coach. From these 10 referrals you gain one extra client who tells 10 more people… and so on and so forth.

3)      Your paying clients come back for more and compliment you by referring others onto you because they are prepared to put their trust in you.

There are absolutely no skills required but to simply be coming from your heart and knowing that certainty and consistency are a vital key in what you are delivering.

So, when you think of the way you do business – Are you consistent or inconsistent? How well do you sell your coffee?

What is Ho’Oponopono?

Talking of radical beliefs, Ho’Oponopono may be a technique that some of us in the Western world may struggle with. There are those of us that have just accepted the principal of this technique and taken on the practice with curiosity and flow. So, what is it? In our student Weekly News a few weeks ago, our resident Star Wars Jedi Knight Kirby wrote the following as a great way of introducing this….

“I recently stumbled across this century’s old Hawaiian problem solving technique. The principal of the technique being that every problem coming up for you is a fantastic opportunity to “clean”.

Ho’oponopono suggests that we are all indeed connected (quantum physics) and we are all 100% percent responsible for all the things happening in our lives (cause and effect).

By “cleaning” we take full responsibility for the problem occurring, thanking the situation for arising and loving the situation as well as asking for forgiveness for its creation. To give you an example of how powerful this technique can be a man called Dr. Hew Len healed an entire ward of mentally ill patients without seeing one of them face to face. He used to sit in his office and read their files and literally just “clean”. Saying over and over again “I’m sorry – please forgive me – thank you and I love you”.

The idea being that by “cleaning” himself he is also cleaning whatever that feelings and thought associated i.e. (the patients). Ho’oponopono’s main principal being that problems or challenges we face are actually a perfect circumstance to help us learn and grow.

Dr. Hew Len in a radio interview recently actually asked the interviewer to ask him some of the nasty questions and responses to his interview as inevitably there are always one or two. When the interviewer asked him why he would want to know and be asked those questions he replied “it gives me another opportunity to clean” and that those questions aren’t in fact coming from the people themselves but from the “data, memories & beliefs” – which is what essentially is being “cleaned”.

Notice what comes up for you over the next day or two and try a little “cleaning”. See what happens.

Kirby

So….your author did just that. I have been practising this technique and have had some interesting things already happening….and who knows why but it is cool all the same. It’s just another way of letting go, going with the flow, stop resisting, and start visualising, believing…well the list goes on. There is a consistent message that comes through from our students, being that the more that they hang onto their outcomes rigidly and without compromise the more the challenge there is to succeed and the more they establish their goals and actions, then just go with the flow, keep moving forward and adjusting to challenges and hiccups in their road and continue to move forward, the more success occurs. So are you prepared to add the cleansing principles of Ho’Oponopono or stay with what you have now? Whatever works for you, we wish you continued success!
