I had an experience recently that I want to share. The purpose of me sharing this is to reinforce to all of us just how cool it is for us to support our clients as they create transformation in their life. Not just that, it’s also so beautiful to see our clients as having already made the changes that will serve them and move them forward. There is so much in that. And it truly is about those rewards of professional life coaching. It has served as yet another reminder to me that the purpose of what I do can have untold influence and ripple effects far beyond where I can see, hear and feel. Far beyond my vision…and possibly for far longer than our lifetimes.
I have a client who is an artist, and she runs a small business. She’s just starting out. And when we first met she lacked total confidence in herself and her ability to create the life she seeks. Along the way we meandered along many streams of beliefs. She had a belief about not having the right to speak up. She also had a belief that she didn’t have the skills to be a great artist or run a business. And I might add this is despite evidence to the contrary. Evidence being some of those in the artistic world seeking her work out. It was like it wasn’t enough to truly convince her.
Her story was about her childhood, as are most of our stories. And the meaning that she gave how she was treated and loved or not by her family. How fitting into the ideal picture her family had of her was so contrary to who she wanted to be, yet when she came to me she believed she had no power to change that. For years she had been living the life of this person others wanted her to be. And finally, it was painful enough for her to seek support and guidance. She’d had enough.
And she was willing to play. So willing to play and to trust. And I saw this magnificent woman who had so much uniqueness about her and I knew that the world was waiting for her. We spoke of how her art could speak to others. That she didn’t need to do the talking simply allow her art to do it for her. And trust that it would speak to those that were ready to hear. We spoke of how her art could reach far more than those that purchased it. That anyone who came in visual contact with her work had the potential to be carried into another world and that was the power of her ability to connect with others. Her art could be her voice.
And today I know that my client’s world has opened up and she is truly living her WHY. She recently was contracted to a project that will see her launched as a reputable artist, amongst other great artists in their media. Now she has discovered that which I knew was inside her all this time. Now she knows she can do this and who knows where this will take her next. And I was privileged to be part of this experience, privileged to have witnessed this emergence of who she truly is. And it served to remind me of how powerful the rewards of professional life coaching are. I have celebrated for her and have been so excited about the new meaning she gives her life. And how powerful this is through the influence and impact for those around her. There is no stopping her now…and for that I am so grateful.
