Michael Griffiths – A Student Shares His Story

Morning Guys,

After another amazing night of pulling in leads, leads, and even better, sign ups I thought I’d share with you the successes over the past months.

I had some hesitation in writing this as I don’t want it seen as big noting. My intention is to thank you and point out the power, value and brilliance of what you offer to your students day in and day out.

Please feel free to use any part in your promotional and marketing as I’d love to continue to allow others to gain the life and success that I know I have because of The Coaching Institute.

I did my intake weekend August 7th 2009 at this point in time I was a full time teacher as well as running 2 businesses. After spending the first 3 months learning, listening and making some adjusts along the way I was ready to begin my coaching practice full time December 18th 2009.

Within 2 weeks I have made back my Diploma and Mastermind fees through following the simple process and action steps that the Coaching Institute puts in place. I have four 12 month clients paying $11,997 each and have two membership programs launching February 1st.

Just from listening to Sharon’s mastermind hot seat call last week and her knowledge on  setting up a pre-launch sequence I completed that this week to already have 25 people signed up in one program and 40 in the other.

The value, assistance, resources, knowledge, tools that everyone at the coaching institute provides is amazing. The only that can stop you earning the income you want and having the life you desire is yourself and not listening or wanting to take action.

February should be a $15,000 month and the goal is $100,000 months be December 2010. Without the support, resources or love that the coaching institute offers every day there was no way that Cate and I could live this life, help so many people in society and live with passion and purpose every day.

Again I would just like to thank you for everything you have done so far and I’m really looking forward to Mastermind at the end of January, NLP in February and Train the Trainers in March. What a 2010 is ahead!

Kind Regards

Michael Griffiths

Testimonial – Megan Leed-Williams

Wow, where do I start in order to tell you about my experience with The Coaching Institute.  I suppose I’ll start at the beginning!

About 15 months ago I was at a rather significant cross-road in my life and was not sure in which direction to go.  After 7 years of being stay at home mum I was facing the prospect of my youngest child starting school and had no idea what to do next.  I was beginning to search the internet for ideas for courses so that I could retrain in something.  My professional background was teaching and I knew I could fall back on that but I knew I had an opportunity to see if I could find something to do with my life that would give me a sense of purpose and fulfilment that was over and above that of raising a family.

I didn’t know what a Life Coach was, and I certainly didn’t know I could become one so when I found the words Life Coach on Google I was intrigued.  I investigated and researched and the more I found out about Coaching the more excited I became – that this was something I could do that could tick all the boxes (own business, work from home, choose my hours, good income, something I would enjoy, connection with people etc) and at the time those were the things that were important to me.

After looking at all the courses on offer there were several reasons why I was attracted to training with The Coaching Institute in particular and why I eventually decided to join their Diploma in Life Coaching program.

I loved the fact that TCI’s coaching training is a mixture of face to face training and self paced study.  This was important to me as a mother of 2 children; I could arrange my timetable to suit my family and the needs of my son and daughter.  I come from England and have no extended family support around me to provide childcare and my husband works full time so this was a very important factor for me.

The Face to Face aspect is important to me too; connection and belonging are important values of mine and the fact that I could train with real people and likeminded fellow students was a big factor when I was choosing who to train with.

TCI’s credentials as being the most accredited training centre for Life Coach training were very important to me too.  If I was going to make that leap and investment in my future it made sense to train with the best organisation out there.

Also, I loved The Coaching Institute’s money back guarantee promise; that you will earn your course fees back by the time you graduate or you get DOUBLE your money back.  This was very important to us at the time as we were on one income and this course was a big commitment to us as a family.

It didn’t take me long to decide to go for the Diploma in Life Coaching option.  The value that the Diploma offered me seemed (and is) a no brainer.  Yes, the Cert IV could give me a coaching business but I was really attracted to the prospect of the Trainers Training component and the NLP training that was part of the Diploma program.  My husband and I worked out pretty quickly that I would end up upgrading anyway so why not commit to doing the Diploma from the start!

I actually started my training with TCI about 3 months after I first started investigating.  TCI were very understanding about my needs and commitments around my family and I was able to choose my starting date which I am really grateful for and so it was exactly 12 months ago I went to my first training weekend.

WOW!  It was just SUCH an amazing start to my journey!  It was 3 days packed full of information and knowledge and I felt so blessed to come away with such amazing tools in such a short time.  It was a lot of fun and we were treated to first class training in a safe environment at TCI’s offices in South Melbourne.

After that weekend our first foray into coaching was being given coaching teams where we basically practised our coaching amongst other students – it was a great opportunity to learn our craft in a safe environment of other coaches in the same situation.

My journey since then has been phenomenal.  Not only was I allowed to practise my coaching skills on other new coaches but I was able to build incredible friendships from this experience too.  I have made friendships with people that I know will last a lifetime and who could put a price on that?

The self paced learning continued to build my skills and increase my passion for my craft.  TCI offers webinars nearly every night of the week and it is truly up to the student to work out their own attendance timetable.  Most people can manage 2 a week but you can do more if you like which is fantastic!

I think all new coaches start off with fears and challenges.  I had several but I will share the 3 main ones.  Of course the first one was a biggie:  “Will I be any good?”

The second and one of my biggest concerns about coaching was the big question “How will I get clients”?  This was a particular worry of mine because I felt I was more challenged by others as I liked to use the excuse that I am not from Melbourne or Australia so how can I get clients if I haven’t worked here or don’t have a network of friends?

My third challenge was “How can I run a business?” because not only had I been out of the workforce for 7 years but also, as a teacher, I had no experience in business and the thought of setting up a website caused me to come out in a cold sweat!

The first fear, about being any good as a coach, was easily overcome by doing what TCI advised, which was to ‘Do the hours’.  The more you practise the better you become.  The golfer, Gary Player once said, ‘The more I practise the luckier I get’.  I love that quote because it translates so well in coaching.  I think some coaches may be instinctive or intuitive but honestly, for the majority, the more hours you do, the better you get.  It’s a fact.  And you get to do the hours when practising in your coaching teams with other coaches!  It’s a fantastic system and so worth utilising!

New coaches are also encouraged to get Pro Bono clients so that they can get their numbers up and TCI offer a Pro Bono pool where they have keen clients ready to be practised on so that new coaches can increase their coaching hours and hone their craft.  I also found that there were loads of people (friends of friends) who were willing to get coached for free.  In the first 5 months of my training I gave away 60 coaching hours for nothing, just to ‘Do the Hours’ and learn to be a good coach!  12 months in I have coached nearly 200 hours and those first 60 were so worth it!

The ‘How will I get clients’ question is something mostly answered within the training.  Networking skills are specifically taught as part of your coaching program and I have found it absolutely invaluable!  We get given guidance on how to network, where to network, how to find a niche market, how to market ourselves to our niche market.  The list is endless.  TCI’s aim is for their students to be successful coaches with working businesses so teaching us how to market ourselves is as important to them as it is to the students.

TCI’s step by step program on setting up a business helped me conquer any doubts I may have had around whether an ex teacher, stay at home mum can run a business or get clients.  12 months ago I didn’t even know what the letters ABN stood for (how embarrassing!) and now I am the founder and director of my own business with over 14 clients on my books.  I have almost earned back my course fees and I told you I am a very slow developer; I know of people who do that in 12 weeks, not months!

AND despite my fears around the technological side to things, I am the very proud owner of a website (www.mlwcoaching.com)!  Admittedly I had no idea how I was going to get a website up and running; I didn’t have the funds to pay someone to do it and I certainly didn’t have the technological know-how to do it myself so what I did was ‘sell’ my skills!  A web designer contact of mine came forward and built my website in exchange for some coaching!  How cool is that?

I have loved every moment of my Diploma program with The Coaching Institute.  The 7 day NLP training was completely incredible and the Trainers Training weekend totally blew me away.    I truly believe that those two trainings are the difference that makes the difference in terms of how good a coach you can be.  The Cert IV and Adv Prac programs deliver so much value and give you everything you need to set up a coaching practise but NLP gives you a deeper knowledge into human behaviour and why people think the way they do and this alone, before you learn any NLP techniques, is invaluable as a coach.  NLP gives you greater insight into yourself as a coach and as a person and gives you so many more skills to your coaching skill set.  And if I were to think of one thing that Trainers’ Training did for me and my business it would be to say that I have developed the confidence I needed to go forward with my business to where it is now and where I want it to be.  I truly believe that my life changed completely after my Trainers’ Training weekend.

The most important thing I have gained from the Diploma Program has to be my own self development so far; I still have some way to go to graduate – the next 12 months looks so exciting to me, with the development of products, the further development of my online presence and greater development into my niche market of Sole Business Owners who Work From Home – but I can honestly say that every single area of my life has improved immeasurably since I started training at TCI.  My relationships with my family, my children and my husband; my health; my friendships are all areas of my life that just keep on getting better.

I will be eternally grateful to Sharon Pearson and all the staff at TCI for the last 12 months because when I started out looking for something that would tick the boxes of owning my own business, working from home, choosing my hours, earning a good income, doing something I enjoy and connecting with people and I have ended up with all of that and infinitely more!

Thank you TCI!

The Evolution of Coaching

Life Coaching is continuing to grow world wide. It’s even been said that it’s the second larget growth industry, behind IT. In 2009 we welcomed over 500 new coaches and this year looks like we’ll be extending our ‘coaching family’ even more.

Many of our coaches come to us for different reasons and from different back grounds. Amy is a young mum from the country, Kevin was a CEO of a major non for profit organisastion, Brenton is in commintary and these are only a few. Many of our coaches come to to us to gain both an insite into themselves as well as to gain skills to help others be all they can be.

Leaders vs. Followers

When leaders make a mistake, they say, “I was wrong.”
When followers make mistakes, they say, “It wasn’t my fault.”

A leader works harder than a follower and has more time;
a follower is always “too busy” to do what is necessary.

A leader goes through a problem;
a follower goes around it and never gets past it.

A leader makes and keeps commitments;
a follower makes and forgets promises.

A leader says, “I’m good, but not as good as I ought to be;”
a follower says, “I’m not as bad as a lot of other people.”

Leaders listen;
followers just wait until it’s their turn to talk.

Leaders respect those who are superior to them and tries to learn something from them;
followers resent those who are superior to them and try to find chinks in their armour.

Leaders feel responsible for more than their job;
followers say, “I only work here.”

A leader says, “There ought to be a better way to do this;”
followers say, “That’s the way it’s always been done here.”

Thought you might like.

How to Make a Mess of It Without Even Trying

I’m writing, and then rewriting the e-report, and I think I’m further away from completion than when I started.

However, I DID make the time to buy a new Aston Martin. Photo included. Yes, bragging, I know. But how often does a failed crime writer get to do something cool like that? Give me a break!

Anyway, had some people share with me what they want to see in this e-report on goals, and Jacqui, from Perth, got into me about something and I agree with her.

We all keep talking about how to achieve more and how to make it happen and how to be awesome… What about the flipside? What about what to do to really mess things up? Jacqui, that’s easy! Let me share the following ‘Insider’ secrets that will guarantee to mess it up, that have not been shared with anyone for eons!

Why do this? Because I got asked, and because it’s worth noting that we are human, and we make mistakes, and we get in our own way sometimes even when we have the best intentions. I know this to be true. I have 12 years of NOT doing a %$#^&*! thing about it to prove it.

Enough of my whining. Who wants that?

So here they are: How to Make a Mess of It Without Even Trying

  1. Keep your dreams a secret because you want to avoid anyone holding you accountable, so that way you don’t have to really do anything – great way to play it safe, by the way. Now imagine you’re 90, looking back, and it’s too late to change any of it. As the old lade said, ‘Most of the things I worried about never actually happened’.
  2. In reverse, talk about what you’re ‘gunna’ do and never actually do a thing – I know someone like this. It’s like they reassure themselves that they’re all good because they get to keep talking about tomorrow’s plans – the busiest day in their schedule!
  3. Think and then over think all the things that are wrong with you so you feel so bad about yourself you don’t want to do anything – self-reflection has sprung up as what we should be doing these days, but really, there comes a point when I’m over me and my ‘issues’.
  4. Complaining always about your hard luck, so you don’t have to take responsibility – the more successful I get, the luckier I get. Seems to me that luck is another word for sweat.
  5. Never take responsibility for what happens or doesn’t happen – the day one of my clients stopped blaming their parents, they got a life instead.
  6. Forgetting your dreams and goals and just get through the day, like that’s enough – ‘too busy’. Want to improve your life? ‘Too busy.’ Want to learn something cool? ‘Too busy.’ That was me for 12 years. Had 12 years of failure too, but that’s another story.
  7. Sabotaging your efforts with getting yourself busy with stuff that doesn’t matter nearly as much, but fills in the day – time fillers used to be my speciality. I could make housework last two days if I did it right. Now I’m okay with dust, and more concerned with making a difference.

Something to think about, perhaps, on a clear blue day when it’s hard to think of one excuse for why we’re not getting up and doing that secret dream…

Free Segment Of Training For You

Sharon has come back from her holidays (sort of) and came into the
office today and spoke with a new group of 37 students. I had a camera
and started recording, because I thought she was going to talk about
something else, and then before I knew it, she was talking about how
she built the most successful coaching school in Australia in no time flat.

Worth checking out, especially the bit where the students join in…

You can see the video here…

Here’s to YOUR success,

Adele

P.S. Let me know if you want more live stuff, and I’ll see what I can do.

Ten Ways to Develop a Champion Mindset

1. Smile – Happy people smile often, even if it’s that inner smile of gratitude – smile more. Science is finally confirming what we already knew; the more you smile, the better you will feel about yourself. Share as many smiles as you can with as many people as you can. Smiling, by the way, is also an antidote for depression and feeling generally down. It activates chemicals in your body which assist you to feel better.

2. Make decisions – the more proactive you are about your life, the more alive you will feel. Proactive, engaged people make more decisions every day. Think about it – if you only make one or two decisions, then they are really going to play on your mind and be important. If you make dozens of decisions every day then you are not going to notice when some of them don’t pay off or get the result you want. Remember, Champions of Life have made more mistakes than people who are less successful – they just kept going. Which leads us to our next tip…

3. Make mistakes – be willing to make mess! People who aim to get everything right invariably end up doing very little, because they perceive far too much risk in action. If you see all mistakes as feedback for how you can do things better next time, you will be willing to make a mess. Give up perfection – it’s so unachievable most of the time that it’s the same as having no standards! Champions of Life know that they have to practice before they get it right, and they’re willing to do that.

4. Have more play – see your life and choices as play and you will experience it differently. The more seriously you take everything, the less opportunities you will see when they come along – you’ll be too busy focusing on how things “should” and “need” to be. Champions of Life know that they can’t take themselves too seriously.

5. Be generous – the more value you give to others, the better you will feel about yourself. Beware! There is a difference between horse trading and generosity. Horse trading is where you give with the anticipation of getting. Generosity doesn’t see the receipt back of a gift – it just gives. Contribution beyond yourself is one sure-fire way to love yourself and your life.

6. Raise your standards – the key to great living is to expect and demand more of yourself. The better you get at this, the better your quality of life will be. Life is not about “getting by” or “good enough”. It is about you giving your best, risking failure, playing at 100% and then doing it again the next day. Don’t play at 100% only when it’s easy to, either. Play at a higher level especially when the going is tough! That is where true champions play.

7. Challenge yourself every day – never settle for what’s “close enough”. Don’t settle, because this will slowly erode your results, and then your confidence. Champions of life are willing to go the extra mile, because they know it’s a pretty empty road!

8. Focus on what you can do – Champions of Life focus on what they can control and influence, and leave the rest alone. People who struggle focus on what is beyond their control and so, naturally, they feel powerless. Focus on what you can do today, and then do the same tomorrow. Make a ten day commitment to only focus on what you can do each day, and see what happens.

9. Focus on your strengths – Champions of Life believe in themselves because they focus on what they are good at and what they like about themselves. People who have low self-confidence focus on their weaknesses and where they aren’t strong, and then wonder why they feel down! Write down your top twenty strengths, and what you are good at. Write down everything you are learning and enjoying and see what happens.

10. Be a leader – be your own leader and your own Champion of Life. Be the person you admire most! Write down every day what you are grateful for, what you are enjoying, what you are creating and who you love. Extraordinary people are ordinary people making ordinary decisions! Be that person – inspire and lead others through the example you set every day.
