Certification Coaching
Certificate IV in Life Coaching
The Certificate IV in Life Coaching lasts a minimum of five to six months, depending on which certification coaching study path you choose. There are two study paths at the Certificate IV level:
- Certificate IV in Coaching
- Advanced Practitioner of Coaching - fully ICF accredited program - go to the end of this page for more information
The second option offers more in terms of advanced skills and face-to-face training. Both are Certificate IV courses. Both offer the most outstanding coach training in the world.
Both courses begin with your Starter Kit, crammed full of information on coaching, the attributes of successful coaches, how a coaching session is run, what questions to ask, the beliefs of successful coaches and your values as a coach. It also includes exercises to assist you in understanding how you make decisions, what defines you, where your beliefs come from, how to change those beliefs and how you communicate who you are to those around you.
This pack also includes the GROW Model – the basis of many coach training courses throughout the world.
We consider it a good start – but only that – so we give it to you in your pre learning and then teach you fifteen other coaching models during your training with us!
Your Transformational Coach Training Weekend
Certificate IV in Life Coaching and Advanced Practitioner students participate in the three day Intake Weekend. Coaching is not a spectator sport. Observing coaching, reading about coaching and answering questions on coaching will not make you a coach.
The only way to be able to coach is to do it!
Once you have completed your pre learning pack you attend your Intake Weekend - three days of training, practicing, role playing and demonstrations of coaching skills conducted by trainers and coaches who run their own successful coaching practices.
This weekend forms the foundation for your coaching journey ahead. By Sunday you will be conducting your own supervised coaching session and throughout the weekend you will learn:
|
The 10 Success Principles of Coaching – Your ability as a successful coach is not just about your skill level, but about the beliefs and attitude you have about what you are capable of assisting your clients to achieve. These guiding principles form the foundation of all the Certificate IV training. You will learn about how to stretch your client outside their comfort zone, the difference between unresourcesful and resourceful thinking, how to take responsibility in your life, how to take action, where to focus to improve results and much more. What coaching is and how a session is run – You will see an actual demonstration of a coaching session conducted by one of your trainers and will have the opportunity to brainstorm what you saw and learned. Building rapport – One of the keys to effective coaching is your ability to build rapport with your client effortlessly and easily, every time. In this section of your training you will learn the NLP techniques for building rapport, including matching and mirroring a client’s body language, tonality, language pattern, experiences, beliefs, values and modalities. Listening skills – In coaching it often what isn’t said as much as what you hear. In this section of your training you will learn how to listen to your client with a new level of awareness. Learn to listen without judgement, assumptions or opinions. Clarifying & acknowledging – Listening is also about knowing when to clarify what you’ve heard so that you coach your client, and not what you think they said. As well as learning this simple technique you will learn one of the most powerful techniques in coaching – acknowledging. This one technique has the ability to assist your client in stepping outside of their comfort zone and going for their goals. Advanced coaching questions – as well as experiencing the foundation model of coaching, you will also explore five advanced coaching techniques. These techniques include NLP skills such as “Purpose” questions, reframing and belief shift questions. Setting up your first coaching session – Getting started is the key to your success, and on Sunday afternoon you will cover all you need to know about getting your first coaching session underway. This session is highly interactive and is the opportunity for you to hear from successful coaches about how they got started. At this Intake Weekend you will receive your Certificate IV manual as well as your Business Building for Coaches manual. Both of these manuals offer the very best of advanced, practical and user-friendly ideas, skills and insights. |

Going forward after the Intake Weekend..
Following your Transformational Coach Training Weekend you will be able to participate in a wide variety of classes, group mentoring (tutorials) and individual mentoring sessions. These classes are highly interactive and informative, and provide you with outstanding insights into coaching models that extend far beyond the basic GROW Model.
Live Coaching Demonstrations - One of the most outstanding aspects of the TCI training is your opportunity to participate in Live Coaching Demonstrations – these are real life coaching sessions conducted live as you listen on the phone. They are conducted by coaches who have had at least 100 hours experience as a coach and have paying clients. This one aspect of your training will accelerate your mastery of coaching – how helpful is it to hear a successful coach in action and then have the ability to apply these same techniques in your own coaching sessions?
At the end of each of these sessions you have the opportunity to participate in the group discussion – bring along any questions you have!
If for any reason you are unavailable to attend these sessions the TCI Bookstore has the complete collection of CD’s available for our students. Practitioner & Advanced Practitioner students participate in these classes.
Group Mentoring ("Conversations with a Master Coach")- Group mentoring is one of the most popular parts of The Coaching Institute Certificate IV program. Once a month our students have the opportunity to phone in and be mentored by a senior coach. There are four areas of focus during these sessions:
- Your coaching business and how to build it – this is all about your coaching practice, how to get clients, how to network, meeting new clients and organising your business
- Analysing a coaching session – the favourite session! Where a transcript of a live coaching session conducted by a senior coach is analysed. The group joins in brainstorming how the coach did what they did, why they did it, what they were looking to achieve and what could be done to improve it.
- Your coaching skills and how to take them to the next level – Bring along all of your questions about your own coaching, what you’re noticing works and doesn’t work, what you would like to improve and ideas you would like for growing as a successful coach.
- Your accreditation at Certificate IV in Life Coaching – Group mentoring provides an outstanding way to brainstorm how to best complete the assessments required for your Certificate IV in Life Coaching.
ALL members with The Coaching Institute can participate in these classes and all available for free for life. The feedback from each these sessions is outstanding.
Tele-Class Webinars - Throughout your training with The Coaching Institute there are regular (monthly) Tele-Class Webinars conducted by senior facilitators and trainers. Certificate IV & Advanced Practitioner of Life Coaching students participate in these classes. The sessions cover a broad range of topics, including:
- Advanced rapport building
- Advanced listening skills
- Advanced questioning skills
- Stepping up as a coach
- The business of coaching
- How to coach businesses
These teleclasses offer advanced skills that go beyond your Certificate IV requirements and are very popular with our students. You are required to listen to all six sessions, however, if for any reason you are unable to attend a class a full recording of it is available through the TCI Bookshop.
Schedules for these and other classes are available through the Member’s Only website. They are generally held on a Monday night.
Individual Mentoring - As you conduct the Coaching Teams as a coach, you will want to receive the highest quality feedback as you progress. The Coaching Institute provides you with a trained mentor whose job it is to listen to you coach and provide you with the feedback you need to improve your coaching skills.
The mentors are all The Coaching Institute graduates and advanced students. They have clients of their own and have had many coaching hours experience. This one part of the program is a must for all our students and an outstanding way to improve your coaching skills!
All students participate in these classes.
Coaching Teams - Practicing your coaching skills in a safe environment is one of the keys to becoming a successful coach. You are provided with 27 hours of practice sessions with other students. Throughout your training with TCI you will participate in Coaching teams – fellow students who you work with practicing your coaching skills. Most of the teamwork is done via phone, for convenience, using a three way call set up that we teach you. Practitioner & Advanced Practitioner students participate in these classes.
You complete nine sessions at a coach – practicing your skills with a student who is your client. You also have another student on the line who provides feedback to you at the end of your session.
You complete nine sessions as a client and nine sessions as the listener providing the feedback.
At the end of these sessions you have done enough practice that your confidence as a coach is strong and you’re ready to start coaching clients outside of the institute!
Heart of Coaching Classes - Each month an experienced Mentor will guest present their observations of what can help you improve your coaching skills. Their experience is extensive and their ability to articulate how to improve your skills is considered extremely valuable to our students. The class is not a requirement of your studies and is provided as an additional benefit for you throughout your studies.
Building a Better Business - Throughout your training guest speakers with areas of expertise are invited to join the TCI curriculum and talk on subjects ranging from –
- Website design
- Website optimisation
- Building a small business
- Networking skills
- Accounting in your practice
- Public speaking
