<$title$> Hello [fullname,fallback=Reader],
This month's theme is courage... Courage to me is:
Action + Fear = Courage
Courage is not needed whilst we do nothing, or contemplate what we want or need to do. It is ONLY needed when we start to act, and the only way we can discover it within ourselves is through the commitment to ourselves to continue to act even when we feel anxious or afraid.
Think about a time when you doubted your ability to do something, but it was important to you and you did it anyway. I'm going to guess that because of that decision you felt pretty good about yourself. You also gave yourself the ultimate gift of a reference point for how you can do something, even if you are feeling doubtful.
Many people deny themselves these opportunities - they deny themselves the creation of reference points for success, for action and for courage that are vital to live a vital life!
Some people even create reference points for failure, pain and disappointment - they deny themselves so many opportunities to have a go and make it happen that they begin to forget it was any other way! They begin to believe that their past equals their future - their biography becomes their destiny. They start to tell themselves that this is as good as it gets!
Whatever your choices today, you are creating reference points - the question is, are they reference points for failure or for possibilities?
I believe that if our lives have any purpose it's to love, to learn, to give and to grow. To experience these feelings then we must risk ourselves; we must take action even when we don't know with certainty that it will work out, and this will lead, inevitably to a courageous act. This will give you the gold - the reference point that you can refer back to, an example of how you can persist, even in the face of challenges. Imagine for a moment how great it would feel... a library of stories of how you had a go, gave it a shot or took a little or giant step.
There is two months left to this year. Another year gone, and another opportunity gone to build the life we want and deserve. The question is, have you taken action, in the face of doubt, to make this year your year? Have you moved in the direction of dreams? Have you taken massive action to get things happening? Have you made a difference?
Courage doesn't come until you start acting.
Courage isn't needed until we turn the TV off and start moving.
Courage isn't needed, most importantly, until there's something worth fighting for! If it was easy, it wouldn't need courage. If it was easy, you wouldn't gain the gold of a reference point. If it's easy, you soon forget it.
Courage gives us feelings of self-esteem, but the catch is, we have to ACT, to feel courage, to build our self-esteem. The rewards come... once we act!!!
Okay, I'm a little fired up, I admit it! I've just spoken with someone who has just had a record coaching month, and they haven't graduated yet. He never dreamt it would be this great, until he started moving in the direction of his dreams, and now he has endless reference points for how he can, and so... he does!
But it has to start with you. With one step. With a deep breath and a reminder to yourself that in the action, you will find the way.
Warmest regards and happy coaching

Q: I just want to be happy and I am not. The problem is that I don’t even know what would make me happy anymore. What should I do??
- Robert, Mt. Isa
A: Listen to your heart and dare to dream. Think of a child who rattles off endless possibilities when you ask them who they want to be when they grow up. They are unafraid and full of energy and enthusiasm about what great experiences lay ahead. As we move through life we start to establish boundaries around what is possible for us. We gather evidence for our beliefs around what we can and cannot do. Write a list of 100 things you would still like to experience in your lifetime and get committed to yourself and start believing that you can.
Do you find yourself waiting to feel a certain way, not quite knowing how long you will be waiting for? Maybe you aspire to have lots of things or do you do lots of things hoping that it will lead to happiness?
Be- Do- Have. You are a human being not a human doing. Creating happiness in your life is something that you can generate for yourself by embracing it as a way of being. BE at the source of your life by choosing who you would like to be and experiencing happiness in your language and your actions. If you are being happy, what would you DO? If you are being happy how would you hold yourself? What language would you use? If you are doing those things what results would you HAVE.
I used to think that I was predisposed to being stressed and highly strung and wish that I were more laid back. Then I realised that I could reinvent myself as a laid back person by making different choices. I knew that it would be unfamiliar at first and would take something to catch myself before I reacted in the same way that I would have done in the past, however I was up for the challenge! I started to choose to be laid back. I would do the things that a laid back person would do and I would choose to respond to situations in a laid back way.
Now I am one hundred per cent responsible for the results that I am getting and for those that I am not and if I am feeling a certain way then I acknowledge that I am choosing to feel that way. Who are you really? What ways of being would you like to experience?
Feeling purposeful and being a contribution will influence your feeling of happiness. Nothing has meaning but the meaning that we give it. What meaning have you given to your life? Creating a purpose for yourself and your life gives your life meaning, what are you here to experience or what difference are you here to make?
Many people spend their whole lives trying to find themselves; some even travel far and wide, connecting with what is inside is fundamental. Ask yourself, what do I value most in life and check in as to whether or not you are living congruently with those values.
Balance is a contributing factor in a person’s pursuit of happiness. Create a schedule that reflects your priorities and make time for the areas of your life that are most important to you. Choose to allow some time each week, just for you, to honor yourself and get connected with who you really are and what you really want for your life.
The attitude of gratitude is being grateful for what you have and creating a space for those things you would like to experience that you haven’t yet. Focus on abundance and start keeping a gratitude journal. Remember to experience growth, variety and contribute to others, exhibiting small acts of generosity and kindness go a long way to giving you that warm fuzzy feeling inside. You are the creator of your own world, so smile and get happy!

From one of our Graduates!
Making the choice to become a coach was a natural process for me; after all, I was following my passion. My decision was cemented after great discussions with TCI support staff who really listened and encouraged me to follow my interests and talents. The course, support materials & self and paced element was perfect for me.
I have now successfully completed my studies within 12 months and I have built a very strong full time business – Your Vision Coaching. YVC attracts women, men and couples who enjoy my enthusiasm, knowledge and genuine interest in their personal growth and long-lasting transformation. We really develop a very respectful and supportive relationship.
Referrals are my biggest form of advertising and thanks to TCI and the Cert IV Business course, I have the skills to grow my business and really make it work for me. I know that TCI are there to support me at a moments notice and for that I most grateful.
Through discussions with Sharon and TCI, I made the decision to become a confident and results focussed NLP Practitioner. NLP has given me the gift of opportunity. I am now serving my clients even more and I am privileged to see incredible results from amazing individuals. NLP has taken my business to a whole new level and I am loving it!
I now spend my days working in a dynamic way, which empowers my clients to make huge changes in their thinking, communication skills, strategies and beliefs. I get a huge kick out of seeing clients moving forward, embracing change and create their vision.
I now love what I do and do what I love.. My future looks brilliant!
Thanks TCI

ABOUT COURAGE
By Christiane Hille, Inspired Coaching
“With courage you will dare to take risks, have the strength to be compassionate and the wisdom to be humble.
Courage is the foundation of integrity”.
Keshavan Nair
The word courage comes from the old French word ‘corage’ or Latin word ‘cor’ meaning heart, which remains a common metaphor for inner strength. It is the quality of mind or spirit that enables a person to face difficulty, danger, pain, etc., without fear. It is bravery.
"A great deal of talent is lost to the world for want of a little courage. Every day sends to their graves obscure men whose timidity
prevented them from making a first effort."
Sydney Smith
We are not forced to show courage in times of political peace. Most of us are not faced with life threats that force us to dig deep inside ourselves to find out what we are truly capable of. We don’t often have the opportunity to show real courage, the kind of courage that surprises us. And yet, I would assume that we have all been in situations where we surprised ourselves with our inner strength. I know I have.
The opportunity to act on true strength and courage does not happen on a weekly basis. So we forget. We forget that we are capable of so much more. And that means that when we do have a choice about giving up or pulling through, we often choose the easy way out. If we accept our challenges and look them in the eye, then we can create evidence of success, of courage and strength instead of the evidence of failure. And that means that next time, we will be propelled to act with courage, because we know we can.
“When a resolute young fellow steps up to the great bully, the world, and takes him boldly by the beard, he is often surprised to find it comes off in his hand, and that it was only tied on to scare away the timid adventurers.”
Ralph Waldo Emerson
I invite you to take a moment and think of the times when you displayed true courage. How did that make you feel? Surprise? Exhilaration? Invincibility? – And I wonder: would you have voluntarily put yourself into that situation?
Isn’t it ironic that most of us want more of those feelings, yet we are not prepared to pay the price and do what it takes to get there?
How many times have you given up on a dream because it became too hard? Perhaps you failed or someone else told you that it is ‘unrealistic’?
What would your life look like if you tapped into your courage even more? What kind of decisions would you be making today, tomorrow? And how would it affect your quality of life, your income, and your self-belief?

Amazing TCI Team... I couldn't resist sending you all an email tonight when it dawned on me that I hit a pretty cool milestone today with my coaching business when a client booked another workshop with me for the last few days of August.
The Journey so far...
- I did the Foundation Skills Weekend in May 2008 and upgraded to the Diploma Program...
- Set up my executive coaching business in June...
- Started networking and established my website and business cards in July...
- And best of all...
- In August, my first month of coaching paying clients, I have invoiced $5,000 - the total investment of the Certificate IV in Life Coaching at The Coaching Institute earned back in 1 month... My goal is to be earning the equivalent of my Diploma fees every month by Christmas.
Update September 2008 - I have now earned back my entire Diploma fees within 4 months of joining The Coaching Institute!
Thanks for helping me step up!!!

Coaching Corner
As I sit here considering the thought of courage, I have had two amazing emails from people that are truly making a difference in their life and the lives of those around them. Noticing this, I remember back to the beginning of my journey as a coach and how I waited for courage before I acted, as I was fearful of making a mistake or not succeeding. Needless to say, there were very few good results in my coaching business for the first 5 months as I waited….and waited…and waited. Funnily enough, courage never arrived in the post, I would check the post box every day, and still no courage. It wasn’t until I was ‘coached’ and realized that it was never going to arrive, that it actually took me to act in order to notice the courage within me. Now, 3 years later, I feel such an amazing level of gratitude that I found that ability to act in the face of fear, as courage always showed up just in the “nick of time” and I was always ‘ok’. Because of my decisions back then to act, I am now lucky enough to be involved in so many people’s success stories and get to share in their excitement. There is nothing better than that.
