After more than 25 years working in various marketing and public relations roles, including 16 years in management, I finally took the plunge and started my own business consultancy in April 2011.
Fortunately, due to my strong networks, I hit the ground running with plenty of work that kept my head to the grind most days of the week for the first couple of years.
Then something happened that would cause me to reassess my business venture and question what I wanted to do in the future. While I was still enjoying all of the trappings of running my own business - being my own boss, flexibility of time, not stuck in an office and so on - the itch that I couldn’t scratch was boredom!
I loved my clients and professional work, but was bored with the mode of delivery, the nature of which involved hours on end every day at the computer. In my heart, I felt I was not living my passions and my talents were being wasted. This, coupled with two large contracts coming to an end, allowed me to stand back and reflect upon what I wanted to do going forward. That was October 2013.
With several university courses under my belt, a key criteria I was looking to satisfy when considering enrolling with The Coaching Institute was high quality content. What I have discovered was this and so much more.
The TCI content builds upon itself and throughout the journey, you experience many “Neo” moments as you feel a palpable transformational process taking place within.
The learning and subsequent growth I have experienced since being with TCI from November 2013, has changed the way I now think about things (above the line), language things (chunk appropriately) and act on things (completely at cause).
I have clarity of purpose, reignited passion and renewed confidence to be the person I need to be for my clients as well as family, friends and the broader community (notice the ripple effect!). And my business - Melbourne PR & Marketing - has evolved positively on many levels through what I have learned and applied from the content and role models of excellence at TCI.
As a passionate advocate of the Critical Alignment Model developed by Sharon Pearson, my business plan is now culture-focussed, has structure, systems and processes in place, a clear pathway for delivery, and program for my own continued growth and development. This model has also enriched my own body of knowledge that I pass on through my strategic services and skills development programs. This, in turn, has led to better outcomes for my clients.
I have broadened my service offering to now include coaching, mentoring and training in marketing, public relations and leadership communication. I have developed a suite of products at different price points, expanded my seminar and workshop program, and am regularly invited to guest speak at business meetings. I relish the opportunity to share my knowledge on cultivating a positive business culture and mindset culture, with other business owners and professionals.
The diversity of work I am now doing has given me the balance I was looking for - balance between working face to face as a coach / trainer / facilitator, and creating strategic plans and inspiring copywriting pieces on my computer.
From my clients’ perspective, mainly small business owners, I am adding exponential value to their business success by empowering them with the clarity, confidence and strategic direction they seek to the position themselves as leaders in the market place.
The future is very exciting with many new projects on the go. I am currently writing a three-month training program which I will be delivering in early 2016 and writing my first book. I have engaged a business coach - a TCI graduate, of course - to keep me on track and accountable to the goals I have set for the business.
The last two years with TCI has been truly life-changing. If asked to describe in one word what I have achieved since being part of this amazing community, it would be “momentum”, and for that, I am truly grateful.
