I’ve been with The Coaching Institute (TCI) for 2 years now, I started my intake weekend in March 2013 and I was enrolled in the Credentialed Master Practioner of Coaching.
I remember walking into TCI full of excitement because I knew this was exactly where I was meant to be, and I was so grateful that at 21 years old I was starting my dream career. Before I started at TCI, I never really knew what I wanted to do with my life, I knew I always wanted to work with youth, however I didn’t even know where to start or what field to go into. I was looking at Counselling and I started with studying Drug and Alcohol work, while I was working full time at a building company in town. After school I had worked jobs in different fields and I had travelled a lot while trying to work out what I wanted to do, and I found it very difficult to make a decision. At the time I was also suffering from severe anxiety and PTSD, while also having issues with my Neurologist in regards to my epilepsy condition so I had developed this real victim mindset. I was used to things “happening” to me and I was very used to accepting “no” and doing as I was told. This was when I was first introduced to coaching, and my coach blew my mind after 6 coaching sessions my entire life turned around!
A couple of months later I knew coaching was the way for me, this is what I wanted to do so I did my research and enrolled with TCI. After I had enrolled I called my coach and told her the good news and she said that she did her training at TCI too!! And it was then that I knew I had made possibly the best decision of my life to date and I could not wait for my intake weekend to get started!!
I started working with Pro-bono clients the week after I finished Intake, and what a great experience that was! I received my first paying client in the next month and it all started happening from there. Not only coaching, but running a business was very new to me, so I was constantly outside my comfort zone, and it has been a bit of an adventure not to say the least! I am very proud of the growth I have experienced on this journey both personally and professionally and the person I have become. From the very beginning I had this vision of working with students in schools, with teachers and the parents and I saw myself working with them 1:1 and also in trainings. I am passionate about breaking the cycle of bullying and so my dream is to work with students on their resilience, developing empowering mindsets and leadership skills and I believed that working with the Parents and teachers would also contribute to empowering the future generation.
At the start, I didn’t find myself working with these clients at all, which to be honest was a little disheartening, however I persisted. I coached and I coached and I coached. I listened to the webinars, continued learning about marketing, sales, coaching, human behaviour and business. There have been times that have been so uncertain, that challenged me and really had me starting to doubt if it was ever going to work out – and in these times I would always make sure I jumped on a webinar, or listened to the CD’s I have of Sharon and Joe, and it always gave me what I needed to keep persisting with the dream and for that I will be forever grateful.
Now 2 years later in my business, which is called The Mindset Movement, 80% of my paying clients are teenagers, and the other 20% are parents. I work with them on leadership, I am starting to gain the clients I have always wanted to work with and my business is really starting to shine. I have just completed my first full day training with a local primary school where I worked with the teachers on Effective Communication and Team Performance. Using the skills I had learnt at How to Run a Successful Workshop and Extended DISC I delivered the training, which they loved so much they asked me to come back for their next PD session for another full day in April. From this training I have also been opened up to opportunities to possibly travel to other regional towns in WA such as Broome, Port Hedland and Albany to present to the Principals and Business Managers of the local Schools. I have been asked to look into developing an online program for teachers and students on Leadership, which is something, I am very excited about working on in the future!!
I truly believe the key to the current success I am experiencing is due to my commitment to my learning and growth, trusting the journey and my persistence. There have been many times where I could have thrown the towel in, but I didn’t. I persisted, I called the WOW team, I buried myself in the manuals, I listened to the webinars and the CD’s and I got myself an outstanding coach. I trusted myself and the journey and now I am exactly where I saw myself being at the start, it may have taken longer than I expected but the journey was worth it and I cant wait to see where I will be and what I will be doing in another 2 years time!!
Thank you TCI for all of your outstanding trainings and support. I am so grateful to be a part of this wonderful community!
