Graham Has Re-awakened and Now Rockin’ It!
Graham Van Dyk
I woke up four years ago when I was wide awake and realized that things are not what they seem to be. That’s when the self discovery journey started and I felt this unstoppable urge to live a purposeful life. I wanted to be able to interact with people in a way that would leave everybody and everything I’ve touched each day, better off than before. I just could not put my finger on how to do this, or find the vehicle that can be used to compliment this internal drive. Then one day it happened...The Coaching Institute and coaching.....I completed my Foundations weekend at the end of June 2011 and in the first moment from walking into the training room was when everything started to make sense!
My journey started on my intake weekend with the magic of Joe Pane with his “intention experiment” for the weekend. He gave me a realization into myself like never before. There and then I decided to face “my dark side”. I now have 5 paying clients and facing this “dark side” also led to play beyond measure in my triads (practice coaching sessions with other students) and honour my coach as well as myself and that has created a shift and awareness within myself that will assist me in the process of becoming the person I need to be for the journey ahead.
Having been in the construction industry for 24 years, and again sound advice from Joe about not discarding your current vocation and work experiences, I just thought that by looking at the industry through “coaching eyes” I came to the realization that it’s all about people no matter where you go. Sometimes the solutions are right in front of our nose and it is so close we don’t see it.
My vision for the future is to build a business / environment that will address the ever changing landscape facing us in terms of technology, thinking and human development. Our social architecture is changing rapidly and education and training to make entities aware of this, in my belief is crucial. Coaching is a great vehicle to provide this kind of solution and as an added benefit it has the ability to change the lives of everybody involved for the greater good.
My advice for people thinking of becoming a coach or adding coaching skills is that it’s not a race, it’s a journey. Enjoy it! Always come from a place of passion and service.
