Rashid’s journey with The Coaching Institute

I’m doing exactly what I wanted to do

Rashid Mubashir moved to Australia from Pakistan at age 18, on a mission to help his family financially. Seven years on, he's still doing that but also helping clients in his successful coaching business—and he's still only 26.

Seven years after I arrived in Australia with $1000 and a lot of debt, I'm doing exactly what I wanted to do.

One of the things I wanted to do was switch the financial landscape of my life, help my parents and family, but I didn't know how. I thought money was about working all the time.

I was going to university and working part time but being away from my family, I was experiencing life through that lens of feeling depressed and having a lot of anxiety.

At the time it felt like the end of the world, being alone with expenses to pay and family to look after. It was a crumbling mountain of pressure.

I came to the point in 2015 where I wanted to take my own life. I went into this rat hole for six months, left the job, no university. I was calculating my decision of whether I should live or die, but there is obviously a part of us that is connected to this authenticity we have. It was thinking, 'This is going to hurt a lot of people' that pushed me to call a helpline for suicide.

I spoke to someone ... and kind of calmed down. I hung up and hopped onto YouTube and I don't know by what stretch of the imagination but a Tony Robbins video on 'Six Core Needs' showed up.

I watched it three or four times, and the third and fourth time I was like, 'I want to do this to help people feel like I do right now so they don't have to kill themselves.'

That was my big moment.

I googled 'how to be Tony Robbins' and bam, The Coaching Institute showed up. It ticked all the boxes, was exactly what I wanted to do. The word coach was just a word—it was the meaning in the work that got me.

I was earning $14 an hour at that time, working in a Lebanese restaurant in Sydney so I did not know how I was going to pay. It was a significant chunk of my salary, something like 30 per cent. But it was worth it.

“TCI is not just knowledge and information. It is so much more. It's a community where you have access to all this knowledge and training and how you apply that, how you integrate that into you as a person and into your practice if you have a coaching business.”

I got to start with purpose again.

I feel fulfilled because I am doing exactly what I wanted to do, and that is really important. Until I started doing it I didn't realise the significance of doing what you want to do in terms of the quality of your life and how you feel about yourself every day.

I decide on what I want to do, who I want to serve, who I want to hang out with. A lot of my life was reacting to other people's decisions ... but as I started to learn and grow I was like, 'I have to take responsibility for how I want my life to look' so now every day I just wake up and do what I love.

With TCI, the amount of support you get at every step ... I would just call Matt Lavars, be like, 'I feel I need to learn this about business, can you do something for me?' and three weeks later there's a marketing bootcamp.

It was a total package of everything I needed to be able to serve people. You can learn to do it not just as a coach in terms of your skill but how to have it as a sustainable business and replace your income.

Now I charge in excess of $400-500 an hour. All of that is a direct result of me implementing and executing all my learnings.

“Before joining TCI my entire day was like a dull, demotivated kind of day. So being able to do what I do now—it's literally every day, frame by frame, moment by moment, I'm living on purpose because I know exactly how I want to live. My day looks exactly the way I want it to.”

What would you say to anybody thinking about joining TCI?

The time to wait it over. You have to say yes to yourself because everything you need after saying yes will be provided to you. You just have to jump in, execute and create the life. Ask questions, get all the support.

In what ways did TCI live up to or exceed your expectations?

The content is definitely world class. I did a lot of research before I joined the school back in 2015 and found the distinctive difference about TCI was the depth they provide. It's the flexibility and continuity of learning, the permanent access to learning, knowing you're going to get the latest tools from coaching and business perspectives although to be honest, I think we could more specific on how to do things in business. The support is phenomenal and the community really is fantastic. You get to really be yourself and people are truly looking to model and live excellence.

Where are you now with your coaching journey?

I am the managing director of Global Human Evolutions. I have 20 clients, all on 12 month retainers—why make it complex?

What is your biggest milestone?

That I've gone from wanting to commit suicide to helping people overcome the need to suicide and live a fulfilled life.

Your most successful marketing strategy?

I have actually really worked with networking for the last few years, generating a six figure business. I haven't used online platforms as effectively but have been learning how to sell through conversations.

What do you know about yourself that you didn’t know before TCI?

I'm going to be okay. Essentially, no matter what happens I'm worthy of love.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

Travelling internationally, teaching, speaking, running seminars and conferences.

If you or someone you know needs help now, call Lifeline on 13 11 14. If someone is in immediate danger, call Triple Zero (000).

Personally, Rashid still has the mission of financially looking after his family in Pakistan. Professionally, he empowers business leaders and entrepreneurs for high-performance and business success.
