"The Most Amazing Thing Happened!"

I began my coaching journey with The Coaching Institute after my second child was born. At the same time as I received my Welcome Pack, there were calls for submissions to do a workshop at a conference 9 months later.

I was reluctant to submit, but I got inspiration from Susan Jeffers and wrote a workshop proposal from the back of her book – “Feel the fear and do it anyway”.

For me the ultimate goal is coaching 5 paying clients ongoing per week and donating a percentage of my coaching fees to the Royal Flying Doctors service- I want to give them a minimum of $1,000 this year.

It was accepted and a whole new world of “I’m not good enough” opened up.

I decided to practice by booking myself into the local community centres and advertising workshops.

My first client offered to pay me after our first session and my confidence went through the floor. I then had a whole load of “I’m a fake” to go with my “not good enough”. But I did it anyway and persevered.

In my second year of coaching, I was approached by a business to do some executive coaching.

I did a really good job of getting the business and then completely stuffing it up from there.  I have since gone through the executive coaching training and there are only a few things that I did right, and 100 I did wrong.

It hasn’t ruined my career though- instead it gave me the experience I needed to move forward.

I was still struggling with the idea of charging for coaching because I just couldn’t see the value.  I decided to hire my own coach and connected with another student from The Coaching Institute for a year.

He was great and helped me to make some decisions that made me enough money to cover the cost of my coaching program.

The biggest challenge I had during my coaching journey was that my marriage was falling apart.

The breakthrough came at Meta Dynamics training. I stopped going away to coach and did everything from home.

This was a challenge as I live on a cattle farm 70km from the nearest town with a population of less than 800 people.

I was pleasantly surprised that my clients were prepared to travel up to 3 hours just to get to me for a coaching session or workshop.

I spent a year coaching and training from home but the marketing was time consuming and now I need to change again.  My kids are school age and I need to home-school them.

I was ready to give-up coaching at the beginning of this year, having finished up with my last client and no more on the horizon.

My husband disagreed and said that I needed this for me.

I’ve worked out a way of coaching clients and being everything else I need to be in balance, harmony and functional flow. I have 4 paying clients again now and regular coaching income. My husband and kids are happy and we are more in love than we have ever been.

Then, the most amazing thing happened. An old pro-bono client from the USA contacted me and asked if I was still coaching. I couldn’t say No!

We worked out a schedule, price and program that suits us both and doesn’t interrupt my other duties as farmer’s wife, mother and teacher. Then he referred me to a friend in the UK and we are in the process of getting the paperwork sorted.
