I’ve always been a believer of constant improvement. With 9 years under my belt as a graphic designer and a year into creating my own business as an online children’s book publisher, I decided that I needed to take it up another level.

I’d hit a plateau and knew it was time for another learning curve.

In July this year I joined a program facilitated by The Coaching Institute alumni. During the program my mindset coach Teuila Reid, suggested I place myself in 5 uncomfortable situations within a week.

I’d come across The Coaching Institute (TCI) and was curiously nervous to enquire. So making a phone call to TCI was 1 of my 5 uncomfortable situations. I came into the awesome campus, spoke to the lovely Fiona Ellis and signed up straight away.

I knew that doing this would keep me on my toes and keep me growing.

“My goal for joining The Coaching Institute is to incorporate everything I learn and merge it with all my graphic design knowledge. I want to share the power of visual communication and the value in design and creative thinking.”

My goal for joining TCI is to incorporate everything I learn and merge it with all my graphic design knowledge. I want to share the power of visual communication and the value in design and creative thinking.

Upgrading to Pro Coach has proven to be one of my better decisions.

It’s provided me access to tools that have boosted my learning and application, especially in sales and marketing.

I watched and read key learnings that the WOW team and my business mentor Deborah Kleinert recommended.

I followed all instructions, rejigged my existing website, used my existing business cards and hit the ground running. Networking, networking, networking.

I came into my intake weekend in August this year with one paying client. I’d met her at a networking breakfast event and because I’d simply followed the simple steps TCI laid out, she was more than excited to work with me.

I felt like this was a good start and wanted more.

So I kept networking, began a blog, started working on more social media connections, and have been trying things out that I’d never have thought to do.

Working in a co-working space a few times a week, I asked the general manager if I could present to companies who work there. I was given the opportunity to make a 20 minute presentation with the condition that I had to incorporate the theme of ‘superheroes’.

Easy! I did a 20 minute presentation on how awesome Batman is.

I spoke about how Batman’s highest value of justice and his belief that the innocent people of Gotham city deserve justice. Putting both together creates Batman's message and brand “Justice will be served”.

The Bat symbol as a visual icon delivers a powerful and consistent message, and I linked that back to what I do with businesses as a Creative Mentor.

I help businesses share their unique stories by helping them build a compelling brand.

I do this by eliciting their values and beliefs and getting my clients clear on what their message, culture and brand is.

I’m currently in the process of creating a new brand identity for myself to tie all this in.

I’m also working with the Melbourne Business Network (a government funded organisation that connects businesses) as a newly appointed committee member.

As a committee member, I feel I’ll be able to influence change in the local businesses within the municipality of Melbourne.

My Wildly Important Goal moving forward is to help Melbourne become The Number One Creative Hub of the World.

The New Renaissance City.

I feel like I’m well on the way with the knowledge and support of TCI and its amazing community.
