After working in the business industry for over a decade, Grant decided to give up his prestigious job and take the plunge and begin his coaching journey.

Since joining the TCI community back in December 2020, Grant is now running his own successful coaching business and is creating profit by following his passion.

"Turning down a prestigious job with big money was such a sliding door moment for me because that's when I really committed to my coaching journey. And what has come out of that has been incredible. There has been so many people that have told me how happy I look and I am happy. I have changed as a person in a good way.”

What is your niche and how are you helping people through coaching?

I've become a business coach.

I’ve been have using these five techniques which, I think has a really unique aspect to it. It has the typical training, one-on-one coaching, group workshops and mentoring which TCI has been fantastic with. The thing I’ve added is an accelerator program.

I've got this background in business and adding coaching to that has been the missing piece of the jigsaw.

Why has coaching been the missing piece? Why has it been so profound?

I've been in business for a long time and had quite a few different roles. I've had some great leaders which I have been very fortunate to be associated with, but I've seen through no fault of their own, that there's this huge absence in what I call ‘genuine leadership’. Genuine Leadership is about being an empathetic leadership, having superior communication skills, the ability to actively listen and to evoke awareness. These are the sorts of things that are being taught at The Coaching Institute and are essential skills that a leader needs to have in order to bring the best out in their people.

I've always believed a leader's job is to empower their people and that's what I love about the coaching skillset because it allows you to create meaningful change.

What's the feedback you're getting when you're working with leaders?

The feedback that I've received has just been absolutely incredible.

My clients are getting so excited!

A great coaching session is just a beautiful thing. Its about calibration and being aware and present to the person. There's probably nothing more important than that.

In the last 9 months that you have been with TCI, what success have you created so far?

I joined TCI in December and then did Foundations of Coaching Success in the middle of January.

There's a beautiful analogy from TCI that goes through a business life cycle and it equates it to a human life and their particular age.

There are the companies which are teenagers that have an awareness that they need to mature into a young adult.

Which means they're in that stage where they've had success and they realise what's got them to that stage has been based on the on the brilliance of the founders. However, they realise if they want to go to the next stage they need systems, procedures, structures. Also whilst their culture got them to where they are now, it may not be the culture that is going to get them to where they ultimately see the destination of their business.

So I've been very involved with those processes. And in fact, while I love talking about the structures and the implementation, a lot of it so far has been actually about the culture and working with businesses with turnover from 10 to a hundred million. So I'd say small to medium enterprises where I'm targeting and I think that's where I enjoy it the most, but I'm not putting any limit on the future.

Have you been doing well financially?

Extremely well, based on the projections, I'm already way ahead of where I thought I’d be. I mean, not just a few thousand, I'm talking hundreds of thousands.

What was the moment you made the decision to take the plunge and start your coaching journey?

That is what I would call a sliding door moment. It was when an executive from a very large company called me and asked me to provide consulting services and I took a deep breath and said, “oh, I don't do that anymore.”

There is a point in time where you're either in or you're out and that was the moment where I knew I really had made a commitment to my coaching business. And since I made that decision, life has just lined up.

That was such a sliding door moment for me because I could have picked up big money and worked a prestigious job. But what came out of that has been incredible. There has been so many people that have told me how happy I look and I am happy. I have changed as a person in a good way.

What would you say to someone who's inspired by your story and is considering taking the jump and starting their journey with TCI?

First, go with your gut then analyse it and if the heart and the head is saying the same thing and the guts still got some nerves, the TCI events calendar is a great place to start! It's time to make that jump! You've got this!

“There is a point in time where you're either in or you're out and that was the moment where I knew I really had made a commitment to my coaching business. And since I made that decision, life has just lined up.”
