Kylie Hancox, now a professional coach and a highly regarded member of the TCI community shares her story of how she changed from corporate to coaching, falling in love with helping others.

"I left my job, thinking I'd sit on my bum on a beach for six months, drink pina coladas and then just go back to the corporate world.

And it lasted about eight weeks before I went, ‘I need to do something else’."

How long have you been a student?

I joined in July, 2017. So we're coming up on my four year anniversary and I can't even believe that.

To start your own business where you’re giving back to the community is a goal a lot of pro coaches want to achieve. How have you achieved that?

I started giving back to the community early in my coaching journey, championing people, getting involved in the Facebook group. I modelled previous TCI coaches, watching how they were showing up and what they were sharing.

That’s been a good measure of success the whole way through. It’s always holding yourself to that higher standard and asking yourself, is it good for me, is it good for others and is good for the greater good?

Did you have any difficulties working out a balance with how to serve your clients?

When I started, I probably had too much of a giving mindset because I wasn't thinking commercially about business.

For 120 hours I was coaching pro bono, which was incredible. To be in a position to be able to do that, I was fortunate. Within myself, I got the validation that what I wanted to do, I could do. But it was also the slowest path to success because I learnt that if I was going to be a coach, it is a commercial reality. Otherwise, I’m just being a charity.

Now I have a successful coaching business, I have a partnership with TCI as a mentor and I have my own clients!

How does coaching change others and how has it changed you?

Remi said early on that it's never about you. It's about somebody else and giving to others in a true sense.
But as we give to others, we still get taken care of. It doesn’t mean the giving is free because it’s giving value to others.

It's giving the ability to be more than you were an hour ago and stretching the boundaries of who we are so that we can live that next version of us.

I would love to look at the videos of me over the last four years and the interviews we've done, and I reckon you would see more than just a physical change.

My size has changed by like 30 kilos but the growth over that time in who I've become as a human being has been what’s important to me.

What were you doing five years ago? What was different inside your life compared to the lifestyle that you lead right now?

Five years ago, I was at a corporate job working insane amounts of hours. I left my job, thinking I'd sit on my bum on a beach for six months, drink pina coladas and then just go back to the corporate world.
And it lasted about eight weeks before I went, ‘I need to do something else’.

This started the journey of figuring out what lights me up and what makes me feel wonderful? Asking myself what is it that I stand for and what are my values. That was what I found with the TCI community.

Now I have this incredible world where it's my lifestyle right now. An income stream that’s in the six figures and I am so, so happy in everything I do. I wake up every day enjoying the tasks that you don't love doing, I literally wake up and I'm lit up about what I get to do every day.

Are you proud of yourself?

I woke up the other day and I was thinking through some stuff, and I thought, I actually kind of really like me now.

Finally I can say I'm okay with being me and who I am in the world. I remember writing in a journal in 2012 that I have no purpose and that was the saddest thing.

My purpose statement now reads,

‘That I'm a deeply passionate, powerfully, vulnerable, purposely driven woman who playfully inspires, empowers, and encourages humans to live life fully.’

I wouldn't have come up with that a couple of years ago living the corporate life and now I just go, yeah, that's me.

Everything I do now is with the people I want to work with. They're attracted to me and the ones that I don't want to work with, well, we're never going to be a match. They're not there. It took a little while to get there but now I work with businesses whose values match mine.

What would you say to someone who's been inspired by your story and your message? Who's thinking about making another level of commitment to their journey?

Look inside yourself, look at where you want to be. Cast your mind forward to the future of who you could be and dare to take a chance on yourself.

Success for everybody looks different, for example I don’t want a multimillion-dollar business with 50 employees. I know what I want and I'm so clear on it and pro coach for me was the stepping stone into it.

So, anybody who dares to dream and truly live a life that's extraordinary for yourself, you can't just dream. You've got to take action.
