I’m Helping to Create a Ripple of Change in The World

A year from now, I’ll be in a totally new place in my journey and I’m sure I’ll be proud of where I am. Because the decisions I make today are decisions I know are aligned with where I’m going. They’re decisions my future self will be proud of. I’m serving others and helping to create a ripple of change in the world...

"I instantly loved the certainty of what it meant to be a student at The Coaching Institute..."

You know that dream of working for yourself, right?

Maybe not today, but one day, running your own coaching business feels like an amazing idea.

You get to do all the things you love. Nobody tells you what to do. Even more than that though, you’re helping others to be better in some way. Whatever their version of better is.

Yet, you’re not quite sure of exactly how to get your business off the ground.

You have a dream in one hand and a bunch of huge questions in the other.

That was me before I found The Coaching Institute.

"Today, I feel as if I’m still beginning. Yet, looking back I’ve come so far. It was a slow awakening for me. The biggest realisations and changes happened when I attended live trainings at The Coaching Institute in Melbourne..."

What’s more, I was filled with a naive kind of arrogance that all I needed was a few models or processes to enable me to create change in others.

I’d worked for years in the corporate world in corporate communications. Add to that a few years working as a freelance copywriter and content strategist. I’d also studied online marketing. And in between all that I was a wife and mother (still am).

I instantly loved the certainty of what it meant to be a student at The Coaching Institute...

So it was no wonder that in a fleeting moment one afternoon, a Facebook ad caught my attention. The ad was for a free event called Breakthrough to Coaching Success.

At the event I instantly loved the certainty of what it meant to be a student at The Coaching Institute along with being a part of their life coaching programs and the support I’d receive. I signed up on the spot with the intention of learning how to ‘do’ coaching so I could help all the client’s I didn’t yet have.

Looking back on who I was then is pretty hilarious. It’s enlightening. It’s exciting.

Because my thinking was so tangled up in a lifetime of story I’d created for myself and I can see that now.

I believed in some way that I wasn’t worth being seen.

Yet, I didn’t even know I believed that.

I thought I knew so much and only needed a little bit more knowledge to make my dreams come true. I had no idea that the first step in making my dreams come true was to realise and embrace how little I knew.

I showed a version of myself to the world that I thought was required to succeed. I had no idea I was keeping my true self hidden, so success could never find me.

"Today, I have a few paying clients and a few leads to follow up. I have a website and business cards I’m proud of. I’m still learning (and will be for life). I’m embracing the structure of the program and following the steps. I have a clear idea of my ideal client. I know their problems. I know I can help them..."

I became a student to learn some models and get a badge. What I got was an explosion of personal growth and self-discovery that rocked my world.

I’m now 16 months into my coaching journey. But the time is irrelevant. Your journey will have its own timeline. A timeline that’s perfect for you.

Today, I feel as if I’m still beginning. Yet, looking back I’ve come so far.

It was a slow awakening for me. The biggest realisations and changes happened when I attended live trainings at The Coaching Institute in Melbourne. Advanced Skills lit up my world as I discovered behavioural profiling and leapt at the chance to become accredited in Extended DISC®. It was the key that unlocked my hidden self.

You see, I’d always believed I was weird, different and just didn’t fit in. I used to feel like a square peg trying to fit into the round hole of society. I saw details that were invisible to others. I noticed things that others saw from a perspective I just didn’t get. And I said the things that many people shied away from.

The self-awareness that my DISC profile gave me lit me up as I realised I wasn’t weird, I’m hardwired in a way that makes these things easy for me – and that’s a gift. I’m not alone, I just fall into a smaller part of the population as far as the statistics go.

"A year from now, I’ll be in a totally new place in my journey and I’m sure I’ll be proud of where I am. Because the decisions I make today are decisions I know are aligned with where I’m going. And like a snowball rolling downhill, my growth gained momentum and grew.

I learned to ask for help. I learned that taking action and doing things was the fastest path to competence. I learned to embrace feedback. And with the help of the coaching courses and sessions, I learnt that saying yes to the things that make me feel most uncomfortable was like a turbo boost towards reaching my goals.

Today, I have a few paying clients and a few leads to follow up. I have a website and business cards I’m proud of. I’m still learning (and will be for life). I’m embracing the structure of the program and following the steps. I have a clear idea of my ideal client. I know their problems. I know I can help them.

The biggest turning point for my business was the moment I decided to show up...

... and stop playing a small game. I got coaching myself and worked on my stuff. I stopped hiding behind my computer and went to a networking event. I started talking to people about what I do. And people started asking how I could help them. I use every incidental opportunity for learning I can find. My life is busy, and I don’t use that as an excuse.

A year from now, I’ll be in a totally new place in my journey and I’m sure I’ll be proud of where I am. Because the decisions I make today are decisions I know are aligned with where I’m going. They’re decisions my future self will be proud of. I’m serving others and helping to create a ripple of change in the world.

I can’t think of anything else I’d rather be doing.
