From Memory Loss to Global Impact: How Jenifer Chewe Found Her Sovereign Identity

When your world goes hazy

Jenifer Chewe’s story does not begin with a simple career crossroads; it begins in the midst of a medical crisis that few ever face. After contracting COVID, Jenifer developed severe long-term complications. She was paralysed from the waist down and, most devastatingly, she had lost her memory entirely.

"My life was non-existent, very honestly," Jenifer recalls. She describes memory loss not as darkness, but as a "haze" where colour and brightness leave the world, and you are left grasping for any sense of self. Even without her memory, an internal compass told her she was built for more—that there was a version of herself she had simply forgotten.

A blog that felt like "home"

The turning point occurred in a library, where Jenifer stumbled across a blog written by Remi Pearson, founder of The Coaching Institute. Despite her neurological condition, the words resonated on a soul level. "It was almost like it was calling me home," she says. She signed up for the school immediately.

What followed was a journey of "neuroplasticity in real-time". As she engaged with the coaching curriculum, her brain began to reconnect. The lessons touched a part of her that remained intact despite her illness, and within six months, Jenifer had regained most of her memory.

"Even though my memory wasn't there, the lessons were touching a part of me that was already there. My healing was my inspiration."

Healing as a "Superpower"

As Jenifer recovered, she realised she had tapped into something life-changing. Although she initially struggled with "imposter syndrome"—a common challenge when you have literally forgotten your history—the mentorship at TCI gave her the courage to act on a vision bigger than her doubt.

Rather than starting with traditional one-on-one coaching, Jenifer used TCI’s systems to build a large-scale impact. Her business journey began with a bold, novel idea: starting a care centre in Nairobi to help others suffering from trauma and health issues similar to her own.

The Nairobi Care Centre and the United Nations Dream

Partnering with a friend, Jenifer launched a centre that now employs doctors and nurses, making an "epic-level" difference in an underserved community. But she didn't stop there. Leveraging the systems she learned at TCI, she expanded into:

  • International Speaking: She is now a sought-after speaker on leadership platforms in France and across the globe.
  • Executive Coaching: She coaches CEOs, managers, and executive teams, delivering transformation that she describes as "leaving me in awe".
  • Global Advocacy: She is currently working toward her dream of contributing at the United Nations level.

The Ultimate Win: Twelve Months of Freedom

Perhaps Jenifer’s most powerful "win" is the lifestyle freedom she has achieved. When her daughter and three young grandchildren needed support, Jenifer was able to stop work entirely for a full year.

"Because of the work that I had done, I was able to stop for a whole year and take care of my children," she explains. This financial and professional freedom is a direct result of the sustainable, duplicatable systems taught at the school.

What Jenifer would say to you

Jenifer is in her 60s, and she speaks directly to those who feel the window of opportunity has closed. She believes that coaching is a "sovereign identity"—a way to return home to your most authentic self.

If you are feeling a pull toward this mission, Jenifer has one question for you to sit with: "What if I don't do this and was actually born for this?". Her advice? "You will never find a better school, better mentors, or a better community".

Questions people ask about making this transition

Is it too late to become a life coach in your 60s?
Absolutely not. Jenifer began her journey in her 60s after recovering from a major illness. Today, she is an internationally sought-after speaker and executive coach. Decades of lived experience are an asset in this industry, allowing for a deeper level of empathy and expertise.

Can coaching tools really help with personal healing?
Many coaches discover this path through their own transformation. Jenifer experienced measurable neurological recovery as a direct result of engaging with coaching frameworks. The "inner work" required to become a professional coach often leads to profound personal breakthroughs.

Do I need a specific background to build an international practice?
Jenifer’s background was as a pastor, but she built a global business by plugging TCI’s systems into her own unique vision. TCI provides the clarity and structure needed to scale a business to an international level, regardless of your starting point.

What makes the TCI (ICI) community different?
Jenifer describes the community as a place where support is generous and free. Unlike other professional environments, coaches here support each other's growth, providing expert help that most professionals only dream of finding.

What if I'm not sure coaching is truly meant for me?
Jenifer’s advice is to listen to that internal "pull." If you feel drawn to helping others, it is likely a calling rather than just a career choice. As she says, the biggest risk is never finding out if you were actually born for this work. The first step is always a conversation, not a commitment.
