But think about it for a minute... how did you feel the last time you skimmed through your newsfeed?

Perhaps the photos of your friends celebrating or holidaying on Facebook made you feel low. If you said yes, you're not alone.

Social media is thought of a pretty harmless way to connect with just about anyone, from your new Yoga teacher, to the girl who played 'Lily' in your annual high school production from years ago.

In fact, most of us browse through sites such as Facebook hoping to foster stronger, more meaningful connections.

Scanning through friends' posts is supposed to make you feel good, loved and wrapped up in that warm fuzzy feeling of comfort.

The contrary is what usually happens -- you end up feeling envious or worse, lonely.

Why? Because social sites can create an illusion of togetherness, making you compare yourself to your peers, resulting in a feeling of 'lack' of some form or another.

If you want to foster real, meaningful connections, it's time to quit comparing yourself with others.

It's time to embrace yourself fully, for being you.

It's time to find your tribe that nurtures, nourishes, champions and supports you through challenges. A community of real people that allows you to embrace your 'inner freak'.
