But First, A Personal Story
Most my life, I was 'searching' for my life purpose because, well, I saw so many others do the same...
I suppose I was looking for something specific that I could put neatly in the proverbial box - 'my purpose is to be a writer' or, 'my purpose is to be a financial advisor'... you know what I mean?
It was like a constant battle up hill. And as strange as it sounds, I didn’t even know what 'having a purpose' meant, let alone actually living it out.
I figure, I just expected it to happen. I lived in a bubble for a while, that when it 'happens', I’ll know and then my life would make sense and then I could find a deeper sense of self.
Is it too surprising that it never worked?
Because here's the thing - no one is born to be a writer, or to be a director, or to be a construction worker. We are just simply born. And we make whatever we decide to make of ourselves.
Life doesn't just happen; people mould it into what they want.
Every single moment, we're making a choice to direct our lives the way we want it to, even if we're procrastinating making a choice, we're still choosing after all.
So What Is Your Purpose?
If it doesn't automatically land on our lap, if it is not our career pathway, if it is not what our parents told us... then what is your purpose?
In my experience, as a coach and a lifelong learner, our purpose is simply...
To Love. To learn. To grow. To give.
Once you start living your 4 truths as a loving, learning, growing and giving human being, the pathway presents itself.
