What is Executive & Leadership Coaching

These were just a few of the questions discussed at this months Victoria's Coach and Connect

Melbourne Coach & Connect

  • Is leadership innate can it be developed?
  • What is Executive Coaching?
  • Is it an E myth?

These were just a few of the questions discussed at this months Victoria's Coach and Connect.

The question I'd ask you is as a coach ...

Who are you being?

See most people think coaching in any field is about the client and it is but...it needs to first be about the coach. So when it comes to leadership coaching you need to be a leader. This means self leadership is the step you need to take before stepping into leadership coaching. Because if you don't believe in what you are doing or who you are being then you have 'no business' having an executive coaching business.

Think about it, it you don't have the confidence, the tenacity, the clarity or mindset to believe you are a leader then how can you support others to create that thinking!

Similar to transformational coaching it's an ongoing process. So if you need to sort out beliefs about your capability so you are congruent with your message then do that.

Next you need to know who your client is being verses who they need to be!

This so called reality check can be a game changer for clients and those who attended Victoria's Coach and Connect in September were treated to 4 hard hitting yet simple questions to ask to facilitate this change process.

There are so many myths when it comes to coaching and executive coaching is no different. While it's makes for an  interesting discussion if you want to know what the common EC (executive)  myths are there are loads you can research on the internet.

More interesting to know are the attributes of a leader, given many people don't consider them selves born leaders your time would be far better spent discussing what makes a successful leader.

Here are just a few of the golden nuggets we discussed in the brainstorming session.

  • Self discipline
  • Consistency
  • Clarity
  • Integrity
  • Confidence
  • Open mindset

I am sure with a little research and feedback from clients you could create a much more extensive list. In fact a work while exercise would be to create a survey and share it with your clients and or friends who you believe display leadership qualities.

In summary the world of executive coaching doesn't have to be all suit and tie unless of course you prefer to suit up. And by making one small shift from executive to the word leadership leadership imagine just how different your potential client list could be!

In summary remember this equation...

Lead self + Lead others = Leadership
