Here’s the thing.
The quality of our lives is determined by the quality of questions we ask ourselves.
It is not easy asking the hard questions, let alone answering them. I get that. Yet, this is our only way to grow beyond the obvious boundaries of the “comfort zone”.
Meaningful questions such as…
Does your work inspire you?
Are you passionate about what you do?
Given a choice, would you still do it?
Regardless of what you currently do, if you’re attracted to working with people and helping them move forward, you like brainstorming, building on success with positive people as you learn new skills and contribute to others, then you may be suited to coaching.
Coaching is about relationships.
It’s about assisting others to move forward in the direction of their goals and desires. It takes intelligence, a sense of humour, a willingness to challenge the status quo and a monumental amount of desire to see others succeed.
Its uniqueness is that every single thing you learn about human behaviour you get to apply to yourself immediately. It’s a constant self-improvement program as you assist others. In fact, the more you improve you, the more you can help your clients, so you’re actually paid to grow, to learn and improve you!
Your clients want assistance with moving forward with a goal that’s important to them. They can’t do it alone – if they could, they would have! – and they feel stuck or confused.
You’re going to show them new ways to think, new strategies for approaching challenges, new ideas for living a more fulfilling and meaningful life.
Coaching is NOT about getting rid of your problems. It’s about equipping you with the means to deal with them in a functional and healthy way, so you can get on with your life with less drama, less fear and more certainty within you.
You’re reading this for a reason… you have an important message to share with the world.
And you want to do that with the support of a dedicated team and with industry leaders. Something to think about… yes?
No one can tell you what is ideal for you when it comes to coach training. However, we can save you lots of time by giving you a list of what you may want to consider when making your decision.
Based on our research data of 12+ years as the #1 coaching school in the industry, here are the criteria coaches around the world have told us they value the most:
□ Support from coaches and mentors
□ Access to new and advanced content during trainings
□ A community of like-minded, driven coaches
□ Face-to-face training with professional coach/trainer
□ Experience and practice with supervision
□ Step-by-step and clear instructions when getting started
□ Ongoing support after completion of studies
□ Ongoing classes with flexibility around attendance
□ Some self-paced study with accountability
□ Training on client attraction & marketing
□ Empowering you to successfully build a career as a coach
□ Real reviews from real-life coaches and students
□ Access to current students and graduates in your local area
Each of the above factors contribute immensely to your overall experience, learning and most importantly, RESULTS.
In the series of posts coming up, we will explore each of those categories and provide you with a checklist of what to ask when you’re first researching different coaching schools and comparing them to pick the best bet.
Before enrolling in a school, you need to go beyond the usual “What” questions and ask them “How”.
1. Are your programs accredited nationally and internationally recognised?
HOW TO CHOOSE: Accreditation is super-important and you cannot have “too much” of it. Of course, it depends on your budget and goals, but make sure your school offers accreditation ideally with ICG, RTO, Association of Coaching or ICF pathway.
2. Do you provide a mix of face-to-face training and ongoing support?
HOW TO CHOOSE: Ideally, a minimum of three days face-to-face training with at least 12 months of support, classes, accountability and mentoring. You want to make sure your coaching school offers you these resources, 24 hours a day, from anywhere in the world. Here at TCI, we’ve accumulated over 13 years of coaching and training experience, all organised in Modules as well as beautiful textbooks and manuals for easy access. The 3 main programs we offer are all ICG-recognised with 60 hours, 125 hours, and 250 hours respectively.
3. How do you measure competence and assess coaches?
HOW TO CHOOSE: Find out how specifically the school assesses its coaches. Our recognition assessments are based on 15 Units of Competency. Our students are successful because our assessments are purposely designed so that completion of the 15 Units of Competency means you have a coaching business in place. In other words, competence is based on the actual progress in your own coaching practice!
4. What support is available to me when I start? What support is available to me after I graduate?
HOW TO CHOOSE: Support you receive both before and post-graduation is important. Your ability to rely on guidance, brainstorming opportunities, and Q&A classes will be important to you as you get into your coaching career. At TCI, students love the ample opportunities to attend live events, practice sessions, dedicated support from the WOW team, as well as ongoing classes and group mentoring.
5. How long have you been operating for?
HOW TO CHOOSE: You want to choose a school that has been operating for a minimum of five years, which shows stability and experience with helping people achieve their goals of becoming a successful coach. Having successfully trained 1,000’s of coaches around the world for more than a decade, we’ve found that this accumulated experience matters most to ensuring success of our students.
6. Do you teach me the exact steps to attract paying clients?
HOW TO CHOOSE: Most people look for the bare minimums – we tend to forget that coaching is a business and you’re responsible for ensuring its success. Marketing is an integral part of your coaching business. The ability to attract clients successfully and easily is one of the 3 top criteria for people choosing TCI as their choice of coaching school. A large part of what we provide our students is the exact steps required for them to attract paying clients, which we provide students in the step-by-step 7-Step Client Attraction Methodology.
7. Do you offer a guarantee?
HOW TO CHOOSE: Yes, it’s a bold question, but it also shows how invested the school is in setting you up for success. At TCI, our guarantees are best in the world and difficult to match. We guarantee that if, as a result of using all our systems and graduating on time, you don't earn back your entire course investment within 18 months, we will refund your course fees and you get to keep ALL the materials.
BONUS: Can I check out some of your student successes stories? Can I check out some of your student reviews online?
HOW TO CHOOSE: A simple Google search of the school should help you with this. At TCI, for example, we always direct people who are curious about coaching to our Student Success Stories on our website. Currently, there are 1,360 real-life TCI coach success stories which shows you that if so many people have gone on to become coaches, and successful ones at that, so can you!
Additionally, research on review websites such as Google Reviews, Facebook, LifeCoachingWorld, TrueLocal, WOMO, ProductReview and YellowPages are good places to start looking for social proof online. You’re also more than welcome to chat with our students and hear from them why they’ve chosen us.
Given the path to pathway to emotional, financial and spiritual freedom is education, our goal at TCI is not only to help you become a coach, but to give you the tools, the support and the environment to explore, discover and nurture your coaching journey.
